White Dark-Squared Qside P Chains May Not Remain
Compiled by fredthebear
--*--

White plays an early d4 and c3, a reversed Slav defense of sorts. Black may allow an early e4 as well. This approach tends to be a bit slow as the White queen's knight loses it's best square to the c-pawn but the d-pawn is usually secure and the queen can make use of the c2-square or give check Qa4+ if Black's king is uncastled. The Black queen must be careful about interposing Qd7 against the check, because White then follows with Bb5 pinning the Black queen. Of course, Black usually responds Nc6 or just Pc6 if either is available.

Black may choose to attack the pawn chain at it's base -- the b2-pawn. Black often plays d5, c5 and Nc6 taking up the space in the center unimpeded by White. If allowed, Black may omit c5 and play e5 offering to exchange dark-squared pawns.

In a park people come across a man playing chess against a dog. They are astonished and say:

"What a clever dog!"

But the man protests:

"No, no, he isn't that clever. I'm leading three games to one!"

The Words Of Socrates

A house was built by Socrates
That failed the public taste to please.
Some blamed the inside; some, the out; and all
Agreed that the apartments were too small.
Such rooms for him, the greatest sage of Greece! "I ask," said he, "no greater bliss
Than real friends to fill even this."
And reason had good Socrates
To think his house too large for these.
A crowd to be your friends will claim,
Till some unhandsome test you bring.
There's nothing plentier than the name;
There's nothing rarer than the thing.
