  fredthebear: It's Black's turn to move in the final position. If he plays 53...Kf7 to deal with the passed pawn about to promote, then 54.Rf8+ wards off the king and White promotes anyway. 55.e8=Q would force the Black rook to give itself up for the new queen, leaving White a full rook ahead.
