Today's opening being the borg, I'd like to shine light on this game.

Nov-22-04  e4Newman: WOW!! This one should win an award for sacrificial play.
Nov-22-04  radu stancu: Yeah, you can't get more 'uncommon' than this! Great game by black! Makes me want to learn the Borg! :) (in this game I think it should be called the Borg Attack, not Defense...)
Nov-23-04  Pawsome: So who is this guy, Kopecek? To find out I logged in to and found a dozen games, all played about the same time as the Popilova classic. Apparently Kopecek is a Czech sans ELO who was born in 1940, making him 64 today. The aforementioned games on the Chessbase data base all open in orthodox ways.
May-10-06  Autoreparaturwerkbau: Not bad. Not bad at all!
Mar-06-08  DarthStapler: Resistance is futile

fredthebear: 14.BxNd2 or KxNd2 was necessary, and White is slightly better.

I tend to get a bit unnerved when the classical style gets dismantled by such an unorthodox approach. In reality, Black has better development and king safety, seizes the initiative, and whips up a pile of tactics and combinations by targeting royalty. That's good chess.
