Selected Games and Tournament Information.

World Championships:

In Havana, from March 15 to April 28, 1921, the match between Emanuel Lasker and Jose Raul Capablanca took place. Whomever you regard as the challenger, the winner was Capablanca, who prevailed without a single loss, +4 -0 =10. Four games down, with at most 10 more to play, Lasker resigned the match prematurely after Game 14, citing ill health, and Capablanca became the third World Chess Champion. Mikhail Botvinnik was equal first with Salomon Flohr in the very strong Moscow tournament in 1935. This tournament is noted because of Botvinnik's loss in round 15 to Fedor Bohatirchuk who was arrested in 1937 for stealing chess funds but was more questioned about beating Botvinnik not embezzeling. See Benzol's Game Collection: Moscow 1935 for all the games.
