 | | Benzol: Ivan Farago
Born 1st April 1946 in Budapest
Awarded the IM title in 1974 and the GM title 1976. |
|
Apr-12-05 | | waddayaplay: His favourite approach to the gruenfeld the rather unusual Bf4 and e3. Since I'm a French Player like him, I looked through his games with black, and found them to be very complicated. |

Feb-09-11
 | | offramp: He has played the second largest number of Class A games, after Viktor Kortschnoj. |
|
Feb-04-12 | | King Death: < offramp: He has played the second largest number of Class A games, after Viktor Kortschnoj.> To make GM both of these players must have had a few decent ones in spite of your ridiculous statement. Maybe one day you'll get within a light year or two of them in playing strength. |

To make GM both of these players must have had a few decent ones in spite of your ridiculous statement. If you disagree you should inform Chessbase through its website at http://www.chessbase.com/ |
|
Feb-18-12 | | nummerzwei: This shows once more that Brits and Americans don't speak the same language. |
|
Apr-01-13 | | waustad: IM Ulrich Schulze was not kind to Ivan Farago, passing his score for top Senior at the Neckar Open on his birthday. He had led that category for most of the tournament. |

http://www.365chess.com/players/Iva... there is this summary: <Name: Ivan Farago
Federation: HUNGARY
Born: 1946
Title: Grand Master
ELO: 2428
Years: 1962 - 2014
<Wins: 1304 (36.25 %)
Draws: 1783 (49.57 %)
Losses: 510 (14.18 %)>
Score: 61.04 %>
That's about 3600 games. He's obviously quite the chess lover. |
|
Sep-20-14
 | | perfidious: Farago actually has, at a minimum, <over> 3600 games, as none of the ten are included at 365chess from the 1984 Toronto International; I was his first-round opponent in a Queen's Indian. |
|
Sep-20-14
 | | offramp: Farago is probably a <real> chess professional - one who has to win prizes in order to eat and pay mortgages. Another player I admire for his prefessionalism is Mark Hebden who seems to be playing non-stop; following European chess winds seeking a weekly wage. How many games has he played? Even Hebden probably could not estimate... |

 | | HeMateMe: Didn't Sly Stallone fight this guy in Rocky III? |
|
Sep-21-14 | | waustad: Looking at chess-results.com, he has played for many different teams in Hungary and Austria. I would assume that he's also played in leagues in several other countries, but many leagues don't use the chess-results service. More is the pity, since it is usually a lot more convenient than what they choose instead. |
|
Feb-16-15
 | | offramp: http://en.chessbase.com/Portals/4/f... shows that he is between Korchnoi & Karpov in the most-active list; he has played 4263 games. |
|

 | | offramp: On today, his birthday;;;

|
Dec-13-22
 | | perfidious: Farago looks in better shape than when we met in Toronto, lo, those many moons ago. |
|
Dec-14-22
 | | Fusilli: <perf> Why? What did he look like? |
|
Dec-14-22
 | | moronovich: I met him in around 82. Together with IM Bednarski from Poland. At the postmortem after his game we ganged up against a certain russian, named Vassilij Smyslov ! |
|
Dec-14-22 | | Eastfrisian: R.I.P. Master Farago. |
