In some ways, this was an even better result than Polgar's (without taking anything away from her sheer tenacity and determination) as her opponent was nominally at a similar rating level, while coming from behind to level the match against Gashimov, who's rated significantly higher and was actually fifth on the live ratings at that point was outstanding. It was interesting that the turning point of the game came soon <after> the time control. Great win! |

At times he has had - IMO - some problems mustering this kind of spirit when meeting strong GM's in tournaments - being a little too satisfied with splitting points. If the tournaments system is changed - as some has suggested - so that every round has to find a winner, then that might actually benefit PHN. In any case: at the moment he seems stronger than ever - even if he ends up losing to Gashimov. |

Absolutely right. It was sad to see him so bereft at the post match interview, but when he gets over the Cup hangover he'll cheer up, hopefully, when he realises how admirably he performed both in terms of attitude and results. |

The message ended with a mysterious sentence "playing with black chesses (!), our sportsman will compete in round 2". |
