World Chess Championship:

Viswanathan Anand has won the 2010 World Chess Championship in Sofia BUL over Veselin Topalov with a score of 6.5/12 (+3-2=7). He clinched the championship with a stunning victory in the last round. World Championship Challenger Match:

Topalov, granted special privileges by FIDE for being denied entry to the 2007 tournament, gained the right to play Anand with a match victory over Gata Kamsky in an eight-game challenger match. Championships:

Gata Kamsky is the 2010 United Sates Chess Champion. The tournament was played in St. Louis MO and due to a tie they played an Armageddon game to decide. Gata had black and draw odds with 25 minutes to Yury Shulman's 60 minutes. Gata held the draw and won his second US Championship. The first was in 1991. Alexey Shirov took clear first place at the Shanghai Masters played in September. Vladimir Kramnik managed to win against Aronian in Round 5 and advance to a blitz playoff due to being tied after round six. Kramnik won game one, lost on time in a won position in game two and then won the Armageddon playoff on time to advance to the Finals.
