 | | Dionysius1: <TheFocus> Bravo! I like the jacket and tie thing for tournaments. It even bothered me that video of the recent candidates matches showed players had slung their jackets over the backs of their chairs. Mind you at conferences I refuse to wear identity cards attached to lanyards - I always ask for a clip so I can put it on my lapel. And so on |

Transport the young Fischer of 1960 into todays chess world.. Shark in a family lido pool ... |

Sep-20-11 | | AnalyzeThis: Fischer just needed a manager, somebody to tell him to keep quiet. Make a few commericals, play guys like Gligoric and Korchnoi in the 1970's, and he would have been a mega superstar. |

Meister326,
What did you think of my one line poem?
Will I weary of writhing women?
It was a reference to Lawrence Ferlinghetti and his City Lights Bookstore being in the middle of all the skin joints and porn palaces in San Francisco. When in SF, I go to his bookstore, not the skin joints. By the way, I think and have stated on this forum, that when Fischer defeated The Soviets, it was the single most amazing thing in Sport, ever. I would have loved to see Fischer go up against The Caro-Karpov-Kann. Karpov, too! |

<...that when Fischer defeated the Soviets,
it was the single most amazing thing in Sport, ever.> Matched - not by a human - by Secretariat winning the Belmont
& the Triple Crown in 1973
the last to do so
by th-th-thirty~one lengths. . .
Thazz a mile & a half
in 2:24
knocking 2.6 sec. off the record
which stands to this day
& amazzzzingly
running ea/ 1/4 faster than the last.
31 lengths ~ 2:24
Bobby 20-0 ~ 12.5/8.5 [akshully 7.5]
Google: 'Secretariat Belmont'
The first (5 min.) version captures
the c o m p l e t e 31 lengths gap.
Bobby, also,
had the largest gap
away from his competition
~ certified by Kaspy himself no less...Yowsa !!
The cracklings of those electric thunderbolts
from 1972 & 1973
are as blinding & audible to our day.
Both INSUPERABLE - a <juan31> word. |

 | | Check It Out: <kingfu>. Speaking of City Lights bookstore, I went there recently; got some Philip K Dick, Aldous Huxley, Naomi Klein, Stephen King (On Writing - an enjoyable read) and Huey Newton. But, they didn't have a single chess book! |

 | | Joshka: Here's somebody, who surely has the authority to write a book on Bobby. One day I hope to read it. Letters to The Editor

GENIUS AND FRIEND
Much has been written about Bobby Fischer. Only a few people knew him as well as I did. Through the 1972 World Championship until his humble ending in Reykjavik, Bobby and I stayed in touch. I could write books about the unique genius that Bobby was. A true friend, like a brother, he and I connected in a very loving way. Bobby loved my family. And, I have been blessed by God with a great wife and children that are now adults and we are grandparents. Bobby was privileged to be part of the Church of God environment, compliments of Herbert W. Armstrong who was like a grandfather to me, and the World Chess Champion. Armstrong wanted to help Bobby in any way he could. Bobby was a young man of 29 in 1972 that needed direction, discipline and a family environment that Ambassador College could provide. The students reached out with love, encouragement, and support as well as the faculty, ministers and members. There are very few geniuses that one gets to work with. I worked with him for 35 years. I have a lot of gratitude that I was given this very special opportunity to work with this very special person. There is not enough room to tell you the amazing things that I learned about what it takes to become a champion. With all this knowledge I became a world class level Olympic coach and currently am still helping others to become the best that they can be. Thank you, HWA. Thank you, Bobby. Thank you to all those who helped him in his lifetime in Pasadena and around the world. Long live the legacy of the greatest chess player in history. Rest in peace, Bobby. Harry Sneider

 | | kingfu: Check It Out,
All the Chess Books at City Lights have probably been purchased. I would hope so. Maybe I need to offer my services to Lorenzo for Chess Books. I hope that Ferlinghetti plays Chess. I would wager that he does play. Maestro, you out there? Let's play Chess!
Philip Kindred Dick is one of my all time favorite writers. Blade Runner, now we are talking. I watched it only yesterday. Total Recall, Minority Report.
Great stuff. Like Bobby Fischer. |

Sep-22-11 | | visayanbraindoctor: <kingfu> I was amazed when I read 'The Man in the High Castle'. Such a realistic portrayal of an alternate reality. I wonder how most Americans would see it - an America that lost WW2, and politically and culturally divided into Japanese and German Nazi culture. |
|
Sep-22-11 | | King of Nothing: <lamont> Are you for real? You go on and on and on and on apropos of nothing, like we all care. Bobby Fischer was an awesome player and you put this garbage on his page? The rest of that line was " and most of them stink." |

 | | kingfu: I love Japan.
The Japanese were eager to help me find my way on the trains in Japan in the 70s. Keep in mind, that was only one generation after we NUKED them twice. Amazing stuff. I love Japan.
I went to a Japanese restaurant and ordered a soup dish. To my astonishment, the soup came in a small crock pot. The broth was clear and I could see that the vegetables and the fish were cut perfefectly and stacked up like soldiers. I love Japan. |

 | | kingfu: My brother in law is the smartest guy I know. He knows more about History than the college humps. We have speculated about Germany in WWII endlessly.
What if Rommel was in charge instead of Adolph?
IMHO, WWII would not have happened at all. Rommel would have stayed at home and built the German economy. He would have prepared for war but not goose stepped all over Europe. Hitler is the perfect example of The Cult of Personality. |
|
Sep-22-11 | | visayanbraindoctor: <kingfu: I love Japan.> So did Philip K. Dick. In the 'The Man in the High Castle', post-WW2 USA was divided into a Pacific Japanese culture vs. Eastern Seaboard German Nazi culture, and Dick was clearly on the Japanese side. If you take a look at Hitler's oratory videos in you tube, it might explain how it happened that the ordinary German came to practically worship him. He could well be the best orator humanity has ever produced. He makes present-day politicians, actors, and rock stars look like cartoon figures. I never understood how charismatic Hitler was until I saw him orate in these old videos. |
|
Sep-22-11 | | nanobrain: Plus another thing (which you can't see in youtube): Hitler's very blue, piercing, mesmerizing eyes. He gave very little sex, but young women--without watching him orate-- would fall for him and would attempt to kill themselves when they feel his interest on them waning. (Angela Lambert, "The Lost Life of Eva Braun") |
