Nov-15-11 | | whiteshark: The famous Serbian grandmaster Ljubomir Ljubojevic in 1997 interview expressed the following view: < "Fischer is a man ahed of his time and his ideas are road markings for the 21st century. Fischer's proposal of changing the starting positions of the pieces, making more room for CREATIVITY, is the only way that the human race can retain its vitality in the face of inevitable technological progress. Like his chess clock, which is used more and more, his idea of a chess game will be accepted - whether in twenty or fifty years is immaterial." > |
Nov-15-11 | | whiteshark: Ljubomir Ljubojevic: < "My generation ( Karpov, Timman, Miles.. ) fought at the chessboard - nowadays that job is being done by home analysis. The changes in chess concern the perfection of computers and the breakthrough of high technology. Under this influence the game is losing its charm and reducing more and more the number of creative players. Before, one played on intuition, feeling; now, TECHNIQUE, especially at the highest level, is more important." > There's some truth in it. /ws |
Nov-15-11 | | whiteshark: Ljubomir Ljubojevic: <" The ancient game is EXHAUSTED, computers have put an end to imagination, there will be no more creativity, PRE-PLANNED moves are being made on the chessboards. " > |
Nov-15-11 | | whiteshark: Ljubomir Ljubojevic: < "I do not think that Kasparov's defeat with Deep Blus is so vital. He lost to Deep Blue because he entered into a fight against a very powerful machine which had not been used like this before. Chess is a mathematically limited game and that automatically gives an advantage to the computer. Quite simply, I think that the game of chess has been EXHAUSTED and that it is near its end." > |
Nov-15-11 | | bronkenstein: <...exhausted...something something...exhausted...> sounds like that good old Capablanco-Grischukian tune. |

 | | perfidious: On Ljubojevic, from a post at Wesley So: <GM Ljubomir Ljubojevic is fluent in several languages and is capable of talking at an amazing speed in all of them so much so that he has acquired the nickname "Motormouth". Having a post-portem with Ljubojevic is usually great fun; he will try to defend any position, no matter how bad, saying over and over "It's not so simple". If you find a nice tactic, he will remark, "You're very trickful". Late news has it that Ljubo no longer says "trickful". The other players had carefully avoided correcting him for years, but some spoilsport must have told Ljubo that the word is "tricky".> This excerpt originated from John Nunn's Best Games, in the annotations to
Ljubojevic vs Nunn, 1987. |

Jul-29-13 | | cro777: Ljubojevic's impressions about the influence of computers on chess. "In terms of openings, chess has developed a lot. But, it is my impression that the middlegame and endgame are still an Achilles’ heel of professionals. This begs the question: <Has the quality of those game phases stagnated because people got used to relying on computer knowledge? Or could this be because people get tired faster than before, because they spend less time on exercising their mental skills leaving that to technology?> In the period when chess relied on personal analyses and when it was difficult to find the information about the latest games played in tournaments worldwide, we depended on how fast we could get these pieces of information. That's why we would analyse for days, sometimes even for months, to be sure if some line is playable or not." http://belgrade2013.org/index.php/e... |

 | | offramp: I always think of him as a more scientific and better version of Velimirovic. |

Nov-02-13 | | chesswar1000: happy birthday Ljubojevic! |

Nov-02-13
 | | DrNyet: This would be his *63rd* birthday according to the date of birth given in the bio. :) |
Mar-29-15 | | zanzibar: It's nice to have a fairly recent photo, but a little unfortunate that he's only in profile. An interesting array of older photographers of a younger GM can be found here: http://www.gahetna.nl/collectie/afb... A suggested edit for the bio:
"In his day" was probably intended instead of "On his day". But I would prefer a little more nuanced phrasing, say... "On game day he was a danger to any given player, but lacked ...". |
May-22-15 | | TheFocus: <...Every person has their own moment of lucidity. Even a chess player who is objectively considered as a weaker player can have ingenious ideas. The only question is if he will use that moment of lucidity to make a good result worthy of that ingenious idea…> - Ljubomir Ljubojevic, asked if he had some unique ability to find surprising moves. |
May-24-15 | | TheFocus: <I have won many games that have not made me happy and when I lose, I am also not happy. My friends ask 'so when are you happy?' That's the way chess is; you are happy only rarely; the rest is grief> - Ljubomir Ljubojevic. |
