Aug-26-06  Xaurus: Hello guys, I was wondering if anyone could give me an analysis of my game vs Chessmaster Mobile. I played with the black pieces on Intermediate difficulty (pretty strong for a patzer like me). Thing is, I am very happy with this game. Time spent was about 25 minutes for each side (can't set limit for the mobile version).

Pawn and Two: <JustWoodshifting> In your game Chessmaster 9000 vs Chessmaster 2100, I am curious how Chessmaster 9000 could select a move like 24.Kf1?.

Congratulations on beating your computer. It's great to review your games for improvements as much as possible. However, your computer did not play very well, losing a Pawn with 6. Nd5 and losing a piece with 17. Bxg6?? but your attack was very nice. Try to open lines against the enemy King (19 ... cb, 20 ... Qxa4, 22 ... cd) when you're on the attack, yet keep lines closed on defense.

You should play openings you like that match your style. Having said that, be very careful about a double fianchetto set-up as Black. You're giving up the center, plus space, plus development. Often Black gets a cramped game right off the bat K Amendola vs H Papaioannou, 2001

Good luck =)

Aug-31-06  argishti: chessmaster is the best computer that plays chess. Realy (well the 10th edition!!). It plays perfect. You guys should try playing it with other computers, it will crush them all. I am surprised that chessmaster doesnt play in computer chess championships.
Aug-31-06  biglo: Computer Chess Tournaments are a double edged sword for commercial chess engine authors. If the engine performs well you gain new customers but if say an amateur engine out-performs the commercial engine then the commercial engine is tarnished.
Sep-01-06  argishti: all i know is chessmaster 10th edition is very strong. I mean i am a player only from 1900-2000 rating, but still i think it will beat any machine, if not beat a draw for sure will come out of it. trust me.

My version of CMX (10th) rates Chessmaster (the personality) as being 2900 US rating. Not sure if this is proper ELO rating as CMX ratings seem to be very harsh.

I have played CMX against Fritz 9 and they are about equal with standard settings.

Sep-18-06  hidude: <Timothy Glenn Forney> Same or different machines?
Sep-18-06  Timothy Glenn Forney: I use both engines and pick my favorite lines or moves.I use Zappa and shredder sometimes also.
Sep-18-06  netlava: I remember my first chess game ever IIRC was against Chessmaster 2000 at age 7. The game went 1. h4 e5? (exposing the king) 2. a4 d5 3. Rh3 Bxh3! (a shock!) 4. Nxh3 (a concession, I liked my knights on c3 and f3) Nf6 5. Ra3 Bxa3! (another shock!)

And I went on to lose after a few more moves. I don't remember the rest, other than the black queen crashing down the d-file, killing my queen, mating my king, and scaring the hell out of me.

Sep-18-06  Timothy Glenn Forney: Here's another game Me ,toga 2 and spike vs.CM10- ,10.Bf3 is my idea,this game has a fantastic finish with a deflection move.1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 e6 3.Nc3 a6 4.d4 cxd4 5.Nxd4 Qc7 6.Be2 b5 7.a3 Bb7 8.Bg5 Be7 9.Qd2 Nf6 10.Bf3 O-O 11.O-O d6 12.a4 b4 13.Na2 Nbd7 14.Nxb4 Ne5 15.Qe3 Nxf3+ 16.gxf3 d5 17.e5 Bxb4 18.exf6 Rfe8 19.fxg7 Bd6 20.f4 Kxg7 21.Qh3 Reg8 22.Kh1 Kf8 23.Qxh7 Rxg5 24.fxg5 Be5 25.Rad1 Bg7 26.f4 Rb8 27.f5 exf5 28.g6 f4 29.gxf7 Qxf7 30.Rxf4 Qxf4 31.Ne6+ Kf7 32.Nxf4 d4+ 33.Kg1 Bf3 34.Qg6+ Kf8 35.Re1 Bg4 36.Nd5 Be2 37.Rxe2 d3 38.Rf2+ Kg8 39.Rf7 Rxb2 40.Qxg7# Mate 1-0

Sep-18-06  Timothy Glenn Forney: <netlava>I too have been playing CM for years and have the first program from 1989,I owned just about every one the programs.
Sep-19-06  Kaspablanca: In fact most chess engines are very strong, i mean everyone strugle even to get a draw against those monsters, fritz, hiarcs, junior, chessmaster, etc.
Sep-19-06  LoFarkas: Hey, everyone!
In CM, is the "Transposition table" setting the famous hashtable setting that people occasionally talk about as drastically increasing performance, if you can set a high value? In my CM 9000 it's set at 4MB. With 1024 MB of RAM, I imagine I could up that a fair bit. By how much do you think? (Needless to say, all I'm doing is adding 50 more kilograms of TNT to the 300kg bomb that will tear me apart...)
Sep-19-06  MaxxLange: yeah that's another name for a hash table
Oct-04-06  cotdt: In Chessmaster X (and previous versions), there are some 1200 rated personalities that pla stronger than the 2000 rated personalties. And the mistakes are not human at all. They play perfect and then just give you a free piece. Not realistic at all. Fritz has the same problem.
Oct-04-06  cotdt: Yeah, I agree with the above post that CM X always tries to transpose into the king's indian defense for some odd reason. what a strange chess engine!
Oct-04-06  CoryLetain: I have been playing against the chessmaster for about a year. I completely agree with Cotdt that the 1200 personalities play stronger than the higher rated personalities(sometimes). I just played a game where a 1200 beat me a classical bishop sacrifice on a2 and then quickly mated me. I played josh age 10 and I bagged his rook in about 5 moves. The game seems pretty inconsistant. However, I highly recommend the training sections of this program.
Nov-08-06  hamworld: What about the analysis? Is it really useful? I mean, it can't even say why "Nc5"(just random) is "slightly better".
Nov-08-06  hamworld: I'm talking about Chessmaster 10th edition...
Nov-08-06  hamworld: Too bad. There aren't any games with Chessmaster 10th edition.
