   Feb-12-09 Alapin vs A Nimzowitsch, 1911 (replies)

Oregon104: <I meant 22.Be3 Qa5 23.Bg1> I agree. I assume that they translated this from descriptive notation, it said "23. B-N1", and the translator was careless...

   Jan-29-09 E Ilfeld vs Halb, 1993 (replies)

Oregon104: This one wasn't too bad at all.

   Jan-28-09 A Naumann vs W Teerapabpaisit, 2008 (replies)

Oregon104: <MostlyAverageJoe> I choose Rd7, threatening the Queen and the f7 square, etc.

Oregon104: Silman's awesome. Excellent writer and chess teacher. Hilarious, too.

Jan-21-09 Kaidanov vs Anand, 1987 (replies)

Oregon104: I kept looking at Ng6 followed by Qh8 and trying to get that to work, then I suddenly had a fresh look at the position and found the mate. Good puzzle, but I do think it was easier than yesterday, considering there are no alternate defenses and thus no variations to be calculated.

Oregon104: <Kasputin: <WhiteRook48: bit easy for a Tuesday puzzle.> Why is this easy for a Tuesday puzzle? > I think it's on par for a Tuesday if the only defense to consider for Black is 30...Rxf7, which leads to forced mate. Black has a few other defenses which have been ...

   Jan-17-09 Motylev vs A Iljushin, 2000 (replies)

Oregon104: Ok, foiled by 31...Bxf1.

   Jan-14-09 Yudasin vs J Polgar, 1991 (replies)

Oregon104: I give my thanks to 'The Art of the Checkmate' for helping me see the tactic of the winning rook check.

   Nov-12-08 K Georgiev vs Shirov, 1992 (replies)

Oregon104: I think this puzzle gives a good lesson not to give up too early in calculation. It seems as though a lot of people considered 23. Bg6, but then gave up after seeing 23...Qe6, which appears to defend. But then if you look just one move more, 24. Bf5 wins the Queen. So the lesson ...

   Nov-04-08 V Disawal vs M Anshuman, 2008 (replies)

Oregon104: I worked on this puzzle for about 30 minutes going over the first 3 and 4 moves of this combo, then finally saw the Queen sac and smothered mate idea... pretty long combo for a Tuesday it seems like, but I guess the first 2 moves at least jump out at you and all the moves are ...
