smokers feel that the world is getting smaller everyday huh! we were being discriminated no end...anyway life is always unfair.

happy 59th birthday GM Hulak!

May-25-11  newzild: I used to smoke like a train while playing. Unfortunately, I was never allowed to smoke at the board, so I used to spend half the game standing outside with the other smokers. Time-trouble was my constant companion.

He died of a short and severe pulmonary disease according to this article:

Fusilli: 64 seems like a proper age for a GM passing, though low for 21st century standards. Fischer did the same. And so did Mednis and Planinc. Probably others too... maybe 64 is to GMs was 27 is for rock stars (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/27_Club).
Nov-01-15  thegoodanarchist: I loved smoking. Sometimes I miss it. Sometimes I find a bar where someone is selling single cigs and I indulge (about 1 a month, although last month I had 3).

This man's passing is sad, especially for those that knew GM Hulak. But it can also serve as a reminder of how smokers have shorter lifespans than non-smokers.

perfidious: <Fusilli> As is the case with poker, chess is sedentary, yet demands great concentration and allows no outlet for all the strain (at least at the table). It is not at all surprising that a good many top practitioners of both disciplines have passed on by their sixties.
Jun-24-16  brankat: I just found now that Kruno had died. Am very much saddened. The first time I met him was in the summer of 1968 when we both played at the Croatian Youth(U 19) Championship. Hulak won the Tourney.
