GrahamClayton: Zsofia Polgar moved to Canada due to her husband's career. She is apparently a fully qualified interior decorator.

Dec-24-08  slomarko: interior decorator? what is that?
Mar-11-09  Katu: @slomarko: you know, the one who designs all the interior of a house. From lighting to furniture.

@the topic: She began playing again, gave a simul with her sisters... she beat me in 28 moves.

Apr-07-09  Dredge Rivers: At least she's never sued the USCF, unlike her sister!
Apr-07-09  MaxxLange: the oldest Polgar sister

interesting that Judit, the youngest, became the strongest player, reaching the top ten rated list in the '90s

Wasn't Sigmoidal one of the Three Stooges? Or am I thinking of Marx Brothers....?

May-02-09  Raisin Death Ray: Sofie made the wrong choice when she left chess. COME BACK, PLEASE!
Jul-28-09  Boomie: <Sofie made the wrong choice when she left chess>

There are no wrong choices. She is doing good work in art and seems happy. How many of us can say that?

Here's a collection of art by Sofia.

I rather like her bold use of color and van Goghish brush strokes.

A post impressionist Fauvist kinda thing. Like I have any idea what that means. But it does maintain the illusion that I actually know something.

Open Defence: the bugs bunny version....... I can see why it got your attention <Wannabe> ... do rabbits actually go "check out the teeth on that one!" ??
Jul-31-09  Boomie: <WannaBe: Holy guacamole>

Is that a carrot in your pocket or...

Aug-01-09  moroloser: <Boomie> I'm not really sure... First of all, I find extremely in poor taste the "Olimpic champion and artist" claim. Second, her art it's a couple of little steps ahead of cats and clowns. But I like your "I rather like her bold use of color and van Goghish brush strokes. A post impressionist Fauvist kinda thing." Actually it does mantain the illusion that you know something! Said that, I totally agree with you, there are not wrong choices. ;-)
Aug-01-09  Travis Bickle: Ah <moroloser> you're still pis#@$ Sofia beat you at blitz! ; P

Aug-01-09  moroloser: <Travis Bickle:> Ok, killer, you got me there... She left chess for painting and I will never have the occasion to have my revenge.
Nov-13-09  TheFocus: I swear, even if I was drunk, I could not stand looking across my beer stein at that smile. Bugsy Polgar, indeed!!
Mar-02-10  alexapple: Sofia is unactive for many years, but she is listed on the newly published FIDE rating list, Why?
Mar-02-10  percyblakeney: <Sofia is unactive for many years, but she is listed on the newly published FIDE rating list, Why?>

Good question, the last time she was rated was in 2003 and since then she has only played two games, none of them recently.

Mar-02-10  Travis Bickle: <TheFocus> If you seen Sofi's other attributes you wouldnt even notice her smile! ; P

chancho: <MaxxLange: the oldest Polgar sister>

Nope. Zsuzsa was born in 1969.

Mar-02-10  Caissanist: <interesting that Judit, the youngest, became the strongest player, reaching the top ten rated list in the '90s>

It turns out that, when two or more siblings play chess well enough to gain international title, it's the youngest that turns out to be the strongest about 80% of the time. We have a running list of chess siblings on the Ton Timman page.

Mar-08-10  MaxxLange: <chancho> informed! thanks
Jul-10-10  Astardis: She's again listed as an active player in the 2010 rating list. Apparently she played 5 rated games in the Israeli National league. She even played (and beat)Mikhail Botvinnik :)
