Jun-23-09  Shams: Very nice crush of a dubious* defense to the King's Gambit by Polgar. 14.c4 is very strong as 14...dxc4 15.Nxc6 Qxd1 16.Na7+ Qd7 drops the exchange.

*but there's a reason I'm looking it up after chess club last night.

'She Selles C Shells.'

With 3.fxe5 Black is playing a Latvian in reverse. 3.Nc3 which is perhaps what Black was hoping for goes into a Vienna.

keypusher: Wade played this same defense against Fischer with the idea of getting to an ending as quickly as possible. It didn't help.

Fischer vs Wade, 1968

To my surprise, SF10 thinks 10.Bb5+ is a serious error and White is worse after that -- instead 10.Nc3 gives a near winning advantage. At move 13 it likes ...Qb6, ...Be7 or even ...a6, but the move chosen is OK. After 15.Nf5 Black could have simply castled: 16.cxd5 Nxe5 17.Bf4 Bxf5 18.Bxe5? Bd6 19.Rxf5 g6 -+, or 16.Bxc6 bxc6 and Black is better.

But 15....dxc4 lost instantly because of 16.Nxg7+ Kf8 17.Ne6+.

14....dxc4? 15.Nxc6 bxc6 16.Qxd8+ Kxd8=. But if 15.....Qxd1?? then 16.Nd4+ wins a full piece.
