Introduction
The seventh annual congress of the B.C.A. commenced on Monday, at the British Chess Club. The programme consisted of a masters' and an amateur tournament. The competitors in the former are: Bird, Fenton, Gossip, Jasnogrodsky, Lasker, Lee, Locock, Loman, Mason, Mortimer, Rumboll, and Van Vliet. The duration of the congress having been fixed to extend over a fortnight, the masters play one round daily, and finish adjourned games in the evening; so that they will get through their arduous task without any unfinished games in eleven days, and have a margin for ties, if any, to be played off.
