Introduction
The seventh annual congress of the B.C.A. commenced on Monday, at the British Chess Club. The programme consisted of a masters' and an amateur tournament. The competitors in the former are: Bird, Fenton, Gossip, Jasnogrodsky, Lasker, Lee, Locock, Loman, Mason, Mortimer, Rumboll, and Van Vliet. The duration of the congress having been fixed to extend over a fortnight, the masters play one round daily, and finish adjourned games in the evening; so that they will get through their arduous task without any unfinished games in eleven days, and have a margin for ties, if any, to be played off. (1) Additional Prizes
The entrance fees, amounting to £24, have been divided amongst the non-prize winners after the Sonnerborn-Berger system as follows, the fourth prize winners being included in the division: Bird, £4 6s; Loccock, £4 3s 3d; Lee, £3 9s 11d; Fenton, £3 2s 5d; Jasnogrodsky, £2 13s 10d.; Van Vliet, £2 6s 7d.; Mortimer, £1 14s 7d.; Rumboll, £1 3s 4d; Gossip, £1, 0s 1d.
