 | | Troller: <Did Salgado Lopez forfeit or what?> Yes, apparently. Chess-Results lists it as such in any case. Salgado Lopez is not paired for rd 5 either, maybe he is ill or had to leave. This puts van Foreest in the lead with Sasikiran after rd 4, by the way. |
Mar-31-15 | | Willem Wallekers: Jorden van Foreest
still tied for first with 4 out 5. |
Mar-31-15
 | | chessgames.com: We tracked down S P Sethuraman vs J van Foreest, 2015 and included the forfeit game I Salgado Lopez vs J van Foreest, 2015, so now Jorden can take his place on the leaderboard. |
Mar-31-15 | | jphamlore: The young player I am curious to follow is Lu Shanglei. He has made tremendous strides just this last year and has a great blitz game. I think he could pull an upset (one round obviously, not the entire event) in the next World Cup. |
Mar-31-15 | | raphi45: Check out Dubov's last 2 games and see how this 18 yr old quietly but beautifully packs a powerful punch |
Apr-01-15 | | fgh: Nepomniachtchi produced quite a powerful game yesterday. Definitely worth seeing: M Kobalia vs I Nepomniachtchi, 2015 |
Apr-01-15 | | jphamlore: Rapport fails to respect the competition at this level of event and pays for it. |
Apr-01-15 | | paavoh: First losses for van Foreest and Sasikiran in round 6. Nepo is surging strong, and Sasikiran went wrong in the endgame - Dubov saw his chance and took advantage of it. |
Apr-01-15 | | jphamlore: <raphi45: Check out Dubov's last 2 games and see how this 18 yr old quietly but beautifully packs a powerful punch> Good call on Dubov. He's on fire at the moment in this event with another win today. |
Apr-02-15 | | whiteshark: <jphamlore: Rapport fails to respect the competition at this level of event and pays for it.> Tough times for the Mamedude, too. <3/6> |

 | | perfidious: Gawlee, that <hamhock> displays cheek in his critiques of players far stronger than he evidently is. One might think him roughly 3200 strength, such is the certitude with which he delivers his pronouncements from On High. |
Apr-02-15 | | jphamlore: Great game between Kobalia and Lu Shanglei. It seems promising to me that Lu Shanglei has shown decent time management so far this game. |
Apr-02-15 | | Wavy: Lu Shanglei is another rising star from China. China has so many good players nowadays. |
Apr-03-15
 | | Penguincw: Mamedyarov (+3,-2,=2) is having a terrible tournament, and it could get worse: 25.Qd4 (-4.26)
click for larger viewMamedyarov blundered with 22.f4, and black, with only a few minutes left on the clock, will hope to find 25...Qxh2+ 26.Kf1 Nxf4 27.Nxf4 Qh1+ 28.Ke1 Qxa1, which'll leave black up a rook and 3 pawns vs. bishop+knight. Correction/Update: Mamedyarov played 27.Qg1, and the game was drawn a few moves later, although chess24 gives an eval of "winning for black". Perhaps black was low on time. |
Apr-03-15 | | Illogic: Lu Shanglei won today and will be tied for first with one round left, unless Nepo manages to beat Sasikiran. |
Apr-03-15 | | Illogic: Nepomniachtchi DID win, so he is the sole frontrunner on +5 |
Apr-04-15
 | | Penguincw: Lu Shanglei resigns, and Dubov catches Nepomniachtchi to tie him with 7/9 for the tournament win. So, who advances to Dortmund?
Update/Correction: I believe the first tiebreaker is most black, which Nepomniachtchi leads 5-4, so he'll be heading to Dortmund within the next few months. |
Apr-04-15
 | | Penguincw: Nearly 7 and a hours after it started, 2 games remain in Group A. Tran-Korobkov recently finished with 97...Kxf4. Sasikrian just blundered after trying to convert a small advantage, and will probably lose. Then there's Svetushkin-Sanal, which looks to be in black's favour. |
Apr-04-15
 | | Penguincw: One last post: Jumabayev and Sanal both win. I also see the Russians steal all 3 podium spots. It also could've been top 5 of 7, but Jumabayev made sure it was only 5 of 8. |

 | | Troller: Even if Nepom took the Dortmund ticket on tiebreaks, this was a bit of a breakthrough for Daniil Dubov. Some years back he was part of a 1996-born triumvirate with Nyzhnyk and Rapport; Nyzhnyk more or less stopped playing while Dubov stagnated, and only Rapport has made it to the big leagues so far. But in Aeroflot Dubov turned in a 2869 performance, netting him 27.8 elo, catapulting him into top-100 in live ratings. In rd 7 and 8 against fellow Russians Nepom and Bukavshin he played short draws (maintaining his standings), but otherwise he has played long and relentless games. In rd 4-6 he won consecutive games against +2650 players Fedoseev, Kovalenko and Sasikiran. |
Apr-05-15 | | kellmano: Has Nyzhnyk stopped playing? A pity, he had great hair. |
Apr-05-15
 | | Troller: <kellmano: Has Nyzhnyk stopped playing?> Not completely, but his activity in recent years has been quite low. He has joined Webster University I believe, not sure if that will whet his appetite. But cg.com has only 8 games with him last year:

Apr-05-15 | | Pawn Dillinger: Nyzhnyk has played in 10 tournaments in the U.S. in the last year. He's not swimming in the deep end of the pool in America. Europe is the ticket for players who want become world champ. Ask Nakamura, and, increasingly, Daniel Naroditsky. Wesley So will play more in Europe as he gets more opportunities with his rating. Even Samuel Sevian is following the tried and true path. |
Apr-14-15 | | parmetd: So what happened with Jan Forrest? |
Apr-15-15
 | | Troller: <parmetd: So what happened with Jan Forrest?> He did not keep the level of play in the last four rounds. Still, 2645 performance and a rating gain of 16: http://chess-results.com/tnr164197.... |
