| | HeMateMe: Is Korchnoi playing? I wish players like Spassky and Karpov would give this a shot. I'm not sure what kind of health Spassky is in, these days, maybe a tournament is no longer possible. I wish he had played a little more serious chess, as a middle aged man. His autobiography, with some annotated games, would be excellant. I'm surprised this hasn't happened yet. He has played everyone, and been everywhere. He must have some interesting observations. I guess some players are uncomfortable talking about themselves. |

Boris has always struck me as the most laid back of the world champions, even more so than Tal, so such a book would bound to be full of insightful chess and humouress observations of his colleagues and life as a GM. The last I heard on his health, Spassky was on the mend after receiving medical care in both France and Russia. |

He certainly does not seem to need the money either. Spasskys' "color commentary" for his games and insights about opponents would be a delight! For now I content myself with "Spassky's 300 Wins" from Chessstars.
1998. The games are entertaining with a wide variety of annotations, but very little personality to the book. |

Anatoli Karpow (ELO 2617, at least semi-retired and de-facto with "frozen" rating points, last tournament two years ago in 2009 with a ELO-perfomance below 2500, since then just one rated game), Jan Timman (ELO 2564, FIDE list november 2011), Ulf Andersson (2582), Rafael Vaganian (2577), Zoltan Ribli (2588), Gyula Sax (2486), Werner Hug (2469, World Junior Champion 1971, never made the GM), ...quite a bunch of notable players but maybe they feel still too young to compete in the Seniors ;-) |

He can be found there or in the nearby vicinity, a true French quarter fixture with many fans. He doesn't just play against you, he entertains, tells stories about chess, and can let you know where all the historic chess locales are in the big sleazy. Don't ever skip visiting him if you are in New Orleans, he is a true bank of chess information and entertainment plus he also knows where the best food and music are there! |
