HeMateMe: I think Short will do better in the 30 minute game than in five minute blitz.
Apr-26-15  Marmot PFL: These offbeat openings are giving Short terrible positions.

Dionysius1: I miss the Kasparov rage in elite tournaments these days. It's remarkable that he seems to have been able to live positively for so long without playing.

chancho: I hate to say it, but this match is going towards debacle.

Yikes!

Apr-26-15  savagerules: 7.5 to 1.5 with one game left. Annihilation in the blitz games today by Gary against Nigel. So far every game has been 1 e4 today. This is similar to the beginning of their WC match in 1993 where Kasparov got a huge early lead.

Phony Benoni: Well, Short did do better in the rapid games. He lasted longer.

Dionysius1: Mind you, Maurice Ashley certainly stokes up the audience for K's exhibitions!

I remember in early 1990s watching Jonathan Speelman beating K in a rapid tournament in London. Afterwards the one who looked like he'd been destroyed was Speelman. While K lounged a pillar in the Atheneum library chatting to his minder, JS was sitting with his head in his hands looking ill with a sympathetic chess journalist talking to him soothingly - and he'd won.

Calling K a "beast" seems about right.

Apr-26-15  savagerules: Poor Short tried a grandpa opening the last game but still got trounced. Short seemed to misplace his knights a lot in his games today. 8.5 to 1.5 final score. Humiliating experience for Short today.

That was soooo one sided.

chancho: <Nigel Short: I felt my energy going down through out.>

Yes, beating after beating tends to do that.

Apr-26-15  metatron2: Shocking level of blitz play by Kasparov here! more than a few GMs could only wish playing like that in classical time controls..

And to think that Kasparov is playing like that at 52 yo after 10 years of retirement.. That is simply amazing.

Apr-26-15  Marmot PFL: I thought Short would do OK with 1 e4 but Kasparov thrives on complicated Sicilians.
Apr-26-15  AsosLight: Short afraid Weinstein even more than he afraid Putin. If he just whispered "Putin, Putin, Putin,..." the result might have been completely different now. Or probably he had to wear a T-shirt with Putin's face laughing. So much about women's inferior brains....
Apr-26-15  MagnusVerMagnus: < chancho: I hate to say it, but this match is going towards debacle.

Yikes!>

I think it skipped debacle and went straight to destruction. That escalated quickly.

HeMateMe: Has anyone asked Kasparov when he will be having a blitz/rapid match with Anand? That's the one that everyone really wants to see. Lets see if the Beast of Baku is up to a real challenge?
