Jul-29-04  acirce: LOL. Tomorrow Magnus Carlsen plays this Schlecht. He has collected his points so far only by beating people much lower rated - and by this. Magnus should be able to win again.

Ow and in his bio is at the moment of writing not yet that he won this years (2006) Danish Championship also

Apr-23-06  Surrealist: <a noted poker player>... Any relation to the legendary Gus Hansen?

Troller: Hansen also won the Danish Championship 2009 with 8/9. He has not yet found his form in the current Politiken Cup (2009), however.

No relation til Gus Hansen that I know of, by the way. Hansen is a very common name i Denmark (of 9 Danish GMs, 3 are called Hansen). But he is mainly making his living by playing poker.

***>

In the game in question against Schlecht (not in the CG database, but the moves are given in <azaris>'s post), I presume you are referring to 33. Rg1? (allowing mate-on-the-move). This blunder was probably due to time pressure, as well as psychological fatigue resulting from having had a terrible position for the past dozen moves or more.

Really more surprising was Hansen's blunder with 18. Qh6? (dropping the e-pawn). Perhaps he overlooked 19. ... Nf3+, and the technical point that if 20. Kg2 (attacking the Knight whilst the Black Queen remains under attack), then 20. ... Nxe1+ comes <with check>. Whatever the explanation, a GM should have seen that 18. Qe2 was the right move, not 18. Qh6? playing for a cheap "attack".

Nov-03-09  dakgootje: <Peligroso Patzer> I have to admit that after 3.5 years I don't know anymore what I was referring to either :) Lost in the mists of time...

perfidious: As <moronovich> doubtless knows, Larsen did not even play in Danish championships once he became an elite player. In 1975, he defeated reigning national champion Gert Iskov +5 =1 in a match.

  moronovich: <perfidious>

Larsen participated several times in the national championship, before he was hit by a stroke in 2000.I was there as a second and one of my friends found him in his hotelroom and perhaps prolonged his life with 10 years.

And now they both are gone...

Yes,I remember the Iskovmatch which I attended every day and it meant a lot to my personal chessjourney.

Apr-08-15  Poulsen: <MissScarlett><Has anyone but a Larsen or Hansen ever been Danish champion?>

The danish championship has been played since 1922. The record holder is still Erik Andersen, who won the title 12 times.

The current champion has won the title 7 times. His nearest rival this year was Curt Hansen, who has won the title 6 times - so far.

<perfidious> It's true, that Bent Larsen stopped playing in the championships after taking his 6th title, when his international career took off in 1964 and onward. His rivals in danish chess at that point were simply not even close to his level. And the prices for winning a championship was very 'amateurish' to put it mildly - and not worth his time and effort.

But as pointed out by <moronovich> he returned to combat his younger rivals several times later on, when his career was virtually over. But he never succeeded in taking the title again.

Apr-21-16  TheFocus: Happy birthday, Sune Berg Hansen.
