sisyphus: Just to wrap up Amber 2006, Paco finished +2 (12/22)--good enough for clear third, ahead of Topalov, Svidler, and Aronian, among others. Chessbase reports his tournament performance rating as 2761 (even if it doesn't count for official purposes).

sisyphus: On the April 2006 FIDE Rating List, Paco is rated 2666. That's up 16 points from January, even after his disappointing results in Linares. He's now number 39 overall.

Suppose it depends a lot on who took the other 47.3%...

sisyphus: Paco is scheduled to play in the XIX Ciudad de León, starting June 8.

It's a four-man knockout, with Topalov, Anand, and Bruzón. Each pairing will be a four-game match, at G/20+10.

The procedures aren't real explicit (http://www.elajedrezdelfuturo.com), but I guess Paco would face second-seed Vishy in the "semi-final".

May-02-06  dafish298: I am the biggest paco fan of anyone..but i doubt he stands a chance with those time controls...he has a notoriously poor record in rapid time controls against top 50 players..and its clear they want topalov vs. anand..but if Paco can beat anyone, it is Anand because they are good friends and he know's how he plays quite well..and he also had a won position against him recently

sisyphus: Gee, I would have thought otherwise. In the Amber 2006 rapids, Paco went +1 against "top 50" players. (Actually, it was top 12, with wins against Gelfand and Morozevich.)
May-02-06  dafish298: <sisyphus> yea he has been increasingly successful at the amber tournament. Who knows? maybe he has progressed enough and will have a chance at this tournament..its still Anand though and he is a beast

sisyphus: The way I see it, 28. d7 was the last best chance to keep the pressure on.
May-24-06  Shajmaty: Great performance so far by Paco at Olimpiadi degli Scacchi Torino 2006: 3,5/4! After Monaco and this, I'm now convinced he's playing his best. Will 2006 B Paco's year?
Jun-26-06  kakhander: <near to 2700 Elo with 52,7% record ! :(>

Vallejo, will NEVER be in 2700

Nov-30-06  capablancakarpov: Congratulations to Paquito. He won today is first Spanish Championship after defeating Gabriel del Rio 1.5-0.5 in the final.
Nov-30-06  veigaman: good year for paco! He won cuernavaca in the begining of the year, he had a great perfomance in amber, chess olimpiad and now in the spanish championship. Also, his ideas were used by topalov playing with blacks in his match with kramnik.

Nov-30-06  Wild Bill: Congratulations to the Spanish National Champion.

sisyphus: Paco rises to No. 28 on the January FIDE list, rating 2679. His record was bolstered by his performance in the Spanish Team Championship.
Jan-28-07  positionalgenius: Its nice to see he won't be in this years Linares, dragging it down.
Jan-28-07  suenteus po 147: <positionalgenius> Be careful of what you say. There's a rumor Morozevich will drop out of Linares and the only player willing and able to take his place on short notice would be Vallejo-Pons.
Jan-28-07  veigaman: Vallejo has been understimated a lot for his results in linares, the best chess tournament in my opinion
