Williebob: The process is the punishment.
Jan-30-23  stone free or die: <Williebob> welcome to the legal system (no matter what country!).

At least the Tate's have money enough for good legal representation.

Williebob: <sfod>, no doubt. I now have the song, "That's the Way of the World" by Earth, Wind & Fire stuck in my head.

the way of the world
makes his heart so cold'

FSR: The Wikipedia article on him quotes his son Emory Andrew Tate III (now a famous alleged international sex criminal) as saying, "I never saw him study chess books, ever." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emory... This surprised me, as I knew Emory a little in his early years, when he spoke reverentially of Vladimir Vukovic 's "The Art of Attack in Chess." (This inspired me to read and study the book carefully some years later.) Jesse Kraai calls it "the only book Emory Tate ever actually studied"! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SNS... (at 35:45). David Pruess cackles.

Feb-23-23  SChesshevsky: <...never saw him study chess books, ever...>

Wondering if Emory had some sort of extraordinary memory? Where he could view chess related material, remember it, and just run through it in his mind.

Looks as though he clearly had some expertise in chess theory, given his use of the Yugoslav v. Dragon and Velimirovic in some of the earliest games from the db.

saffuna: <Dr. Daaim Shabazz, Tate's biographer and author of "The Chess Drum" blog, discusses Tate and his sons Andrew and Tristan in this video:>

Shabazz's discussion would make more sense if he didn't just refer to Andrew and Tristan as controversial social media figures. He might have mentioned they are under arrest for sex trafficking.

Williebob: <saffuna>, while I am no admirer of sleaze merchants, it would appear that the Tate brothers have met their match with the Romanian authorities. Another 30 days detention without charges. The allegations certainly sound monstrous, claiming coercion, intimidation and physical violence, but apparently there is little evidence.

Never discount the possibility that all parties in such stories, including the tabloid media which plays along for maximum impact, can be sleazy and dishonest people. Andrew did say he preferred doing his business in Romania due to their narrow legal protections against sexual assault.
May-04-23  stone free or die: An update - a little late, but from early April came this announcement:

<<<Andrew Tate released from detention and moved to house arrest in Romania>

A Bucharest court of appeal ruled in favor of the controversial social media influencer and his brother, who have spent months in a Romanian jail under accusations of human trafficking and rape.>

FSR: <Controversial influencer and former professional kickboxer Andrew Tate has reportedly been charged with rape and human trafficking offences in Romania, according to U.K. reports.

The BBC reported Tate, who was arrested by Romanian anti-terrorism authorities last December, has also been charged with “forming organised crime group to sexually exploit women.”

According to the indictment Tate and three others have been engaging in human trafficking in Romania as well as the U.S. and the U.K.

Tate’s brother Tristan has also reportedly been charged alongside two other suspects. The brothers are understood to have been under house arrest in Bucharest, Romania since March.

On Tuesday morning, Romanian prosecutors charged the brothers, who are now set to face trial.> https://variety.com/2023/digital/gl...

offramp: I read Emory Tate (kibitz #269) and I was amazed that this excellent chess player had a son who was a low-life. I thought Andrew Tate was British, but I now know he has dual nationality.

I wonder if Andrew Tate can play chess at a non-beginner level.

Mar-19-24  SugarDom: Yes. Andrew Tate can play chess besides being an MMA fighter.
Mar-29-24  ADmightywarriorIN: offramp... i dont appreciate when you call people low lives without proof... if his job is to beat the shyt out of people, well that's his job, not being lowlife... AGAIN TATE'S LAST GAME, LIKE BAGIROV'S, WAS WAS THE OUTCOME SINCE THEY CROAKED AT THE CHESS TABLE...

Williebob: Apparently the brothers are under 'house arrest' in Romania as the case drags along.

Also, there are charges of sexual assault percolating in the UK.

To the many faces of <Mighty Nida>, I would say that the "low life" epithet flows effortlessly from a single glance at Andrew Tate's online commercial storefront, Hustlers University.

Borrowing the famous phrase from the recently passed Noel Parmentel: "Would you buy a used car from this man?"

FSR: Andrew Tate is in high spirits:

<Andrew Tate, a manosphere influencer and self-proclaimed misogynist, has, as expected, been on a tear on X following Trump’s election.

"I saw a woman crossing the road today but I just kept my foot down. Right of way? You no longer have rights," he wrote in one post. "The men are back in charge," he said in another. And in a repost of a woman saying she's "asking for a President who isn’t a rapist," Tate wrote "REQUEST DENIED."> https://www.teenvogue.com/story/emb...
