 | | WannaBe: <waustad> that is just fool the immigration officials. Sshhhhhhh... |
Feb-01-12 | | whiteshark: As active tournament players they are most of the time elsewhere on the globe.
Gibraltar-Open for example is a kind of 'family reunification', so to say. |
Feb-01-12
 | | Penguincw: Happy Birthday (in about 15 days). |
Feb-01-12 | | waustad: If he passes Georg Meier (they are very close), the top 2 Germans will both be from Latvia. |
Feb-01-12
 | | Penguincw: What's also interesting is that Arkadi Naiditsch is also from Latvia. |
Feb-15-12
 | | Penguincw: Reminds me of a player. |
Mar-10-12 | | Eti fan: Daniel Fridman became German champion today winning the last game http://www.chessdom.com/german-indi... |
Mar-10-12 | | whiteshark: yet again <Gluckwünsch, Champ! <:D>> |
Mar-10-12 | | waustad: Congrats! Eventually they'll probably post these games. |
Mar-10-12
 | | Penguincw: Fridman wins the German Championship!
http://www.chessbase.com/newsdetail...
Even though Arkadi Naiditsch and Georg Meier didn't play. |
Mar-10-12 | | whiteshark: not to mention Jan Gustafsson. The German Individual Chess Championship is a rather 'weak tournament' due to the "federal composition" of the starting field. Out of 42 participants there were only 5 GM, 4 IM and a WGM this year. http://www.dem-2012.de/index.php/te... The average ELO of the tournament participants was (only) 2342. |
Mar-11-12 | | whiteshark: So here's the chessbase article about the 83rd German Individual Championship: http://chessbase.com/newsdetail.asp... |
May-13-12
 | | HeMateMe: The bio says Friedman was born in Latvia, moved to Germany later. Nice pun. |
Jan-03-13
 | | ketchuplover: good luck in baden-baden |
Jan-03-13 | | whiteshark: <ketchuplover> Are you thin♔ about the "Grenke chess classics" in February? |
Feb-10-13 | | Everett: "Learned chess at four," when you should have been outside climbing trees or inside tearing up the house. I hope my son doesn't learn until he is seven, or maybe never, considering how much time I fruitlessly waste on the activity. The above is said "tongue in cheek," yet with the requisite "truth" in every joke. Either way, I think there is no shame, and a lot to be said of learning late like Rubinstein and Seirawan. |
Feb-15-14 | | waustad: It isn't just when you "learned the game" but when you took it seriously. In my case I learned the moves at around 7 or 8 but never took it at all seriously until the Fischer vs Spassky match when I was 22. I was on a high school team that lost to the junior high team because some of them had looked at chess books and studied some and we older "players" just knew the moves. The only thing I remember from that era was trying to make the Nimzo-Larsen work because I remembered seeing a pattern where the king side was messed up because of the fianchettoed bishop. I didn't have any way to say that then, but it is the first strategic notion I recall having. That is the first analysis I recall doing and it was not in any depth at all. After reading some books at least I'd have had some vocabulary. |
Aug-01-14 | | CountryGirl: I enjoy Daniel's games very much, but am concerned about his future competitiveness. Top tournament chess is very gruelling, and going by his photo Daniel is way overweight. Eat well, exercise daily, and then you'll find extra energy in the fifth hour, Daniel! |
Aug-02-14 | | whiteshark: Some were reluctant to leave the buses http://s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/d...
- here husband and wife duo Daniel Fridman (Germany) and Anna Zatonskih (USA). |
Nov-30-14 | | Karpova: Congratulations on winning the German Individual Championship 2014 - his third title overall. He scored 7.5/9. Source: http://www.schachbund.de/dem2014/ar... |
Feb-15-16 | | TheFocus: Happy birthday, GM Daniel Fridman. |
Feb-15-17 | | thegoodanarchist: Did he convert to the Latvian Orthodox church? |
Feb-15-17 | | gars: Congratulations, Grandmaster Fridman! And let's not forget that February 19 is David Bronstein's Day! |
Feb-15-19
 | | Penguincw: < Feb-01-12 Penguincw: Happy Birthday (in about 15 days). > 6 years and 14 days later, Happy 43rd! |
Apr-22-19 | | sonia91: Congratulations to Fridman on winning the Grenke Open 2019! He won the massive (over 900 participants!) A open on tiebreak from 7 other players (among them D Gukesh, 2nd youngest GM ever) with 7.5/9 and qualifies to next year's Grenke Classic: http://chess-results.com/tnr433333.... |
