 | | FSR: Another giant has died. He was the last known player to have played Lasker, and one of only five known living players with a Morphy Number of 3 (he played Mieses, who played Bird, who played Morphy). |

Lilienthal vs Capablanca, 1935 |
|
May-08-10 | | laskereshevsky: <Tabanus: ....Did he ever play Tal, Spassky and Fischer?> By memory I could say he played with ALL (!) the world champions from Lasker to Karpov with the exception of Tal and Fischer.... Lasker, Capa, Alekhine, Euwe, Botvinnik, Smyslov, Petrosian, Spassky and Karpov In the pre-FIDE championship he didnt met only Anderssen and Steinitz, and in the modern time Tal, Fischer and Kasparov... (With all the respect for Kramnik, Anand, Topalov etc., I consider Gazza to be the last "legitimate" world champion, cause IMHO after the 1991's K-K match the DARK SIDE OF THE FORCE rulled the chess-world...) |
|
May-08-10 | | laskereshevsky: <ppeti84: He passed away yesterday...> HI, where U got this (very sad) new?! |

 | | HeMateMe: Seems to have been a pretty active fellow, chesswise and otherwise. His books are from so long ago that they might be free as a google download, should you be interested. Who might be the next <oldest living grandmaster?> |
