Sep-21-05 | | mastercheff: I think Dane Mattson played a good game. |
Sep-21-05 | | square dance: what makes you think that? he lost in 29 moves with the white pieces to a draw master. |
Sep-21-05 | | mastercheff: Vladimir Epishin is not a "draw master." If anything Vladimir Epishin is a 2600 rated draw grandmaster. |
Sep-22-05 | | square dance: the term for gms who favor draws is draw master, but either way i still fail to see how losing in 29 moves with the white pieces constitutes a good game. |
Sep-22-05 | | JohnnyRhetoric: I suppose mastercheff is inferring to the fact that Dane Mattson was 16-years old at the time with a 1600 rating. Perhaps he was also indicating that Dane Mattson was listening to headphones during the game. Epishin didn't have an initial objection, but after 13. Ba3! he immediately ordered that Mr. Mattson remove his headphones. On the other hand, it is also possible that MasterCheff is referring to the fact that Vladimir Epishin left during the game for a smoke break, and told another Russian master that Mr. Mattson was using, "satellites." Simply playing a GM if you are U2200 is an incredible accomplishment. There seems to be some decent ideas by white, and, of course, some horrid ones. Nevertheless, the 1600 Mattson put up a good contest and deserves credit. By the way, when is the last time YOU have played a GM in rated, over the board tournament competition, square dance? What about an IM? At the very least an FM? Or is the closest experience you've ever had is classifying GMs as "drawmasters" from your dismal computer screen? |
Sep-22-05 | | mastercheff: Yeah!!! |
Sep-22-05
 | | cu8sfan: <mastercheff> = Dane Mattson? |
Sep-22-05 | | square dance: <cu8sfan> i would guess that <mastercheff> is a member of the dane mattson fan club. i would also guess that <JohnnyRhetoric> is dane mattson. <JohnnyRhetoric> what does anything in your first paragraph have to do with white playing a good game? <Simply playing a GM if you are U2200 is an incredible accomplishment.> it is? i knew i should've shown up at <susan polgar>'s simul. i've always wanted to accomplish something incredible. btw, whats so incredible about being paired up with a gm? <Nevertheless, the 1600 Mattson put up a good contest...> given the respective ratings of the two individuals i have to agree with this statement. <By the way, when is the last time YOU have played a GM in rated, over the board tournament competition, square dance? What about an IM? At the very least an FM?> never. i dont live in a chess playing community and frankly, i dont take chess that seriously. i do enjoy it as a hobby though. <Or is the closest experience you've ever had is classifying GMs as "drawmasters" from your dismal computer screen?> well, i did lose to a gm in a one minute game on playchess.com, with the white pieces. judging by the criteria on this page i guess you can say i played a good game. btw, insulting me is one thing, but i dont know what my computer screen ever did to you. i didnt mean to hurt your feelings mr. mattson(i presume), but the initial post on this page made me take a look at the game. after reviewing it i was curious to know why <mastercheff> thought that dane mattson played a good game. if he had just come out and said that dane mattson was a 16 year old 1600 rated player that would've answered my question on the spot. although i've taken issue with some of the things you've said i certainly cant argue with the most recent post by <mastercheff>. |

Sep-22-05 | | RookFile: Well, it was still a ballgame until 27. Nd2. Fritz says, substitute 27. g3 Ne6 28. a6, and you've got
an equal game. |
Sep-22-05 | | SneechLatke: Dane's got his own page?! YES!! One of the nicest players in Minnesota. He is an excellent guy with a great sense of humor. I consider myself lucky to be among his acquaintences. |
Sep-22-05 | | SneechLatke: oh, if either <mastercheff> or <Johnnyrhetoric> is actually dane, please let me know. it would be nice to find a fellow minnesotan on this site. :) |
Sep-22-05 | | SneechLatke: come on <johnny>, it must be u or how do you know all that stuff about "mr mattson's" game? :) |
Sep-22-05
 | | offramp: After Epishin talked to the TD, Mattson was asked to wear a sort of tin-foil beanie that was filled with water. |
Sep-22-05 | | SneechLatke: <mastercheff> yes, Edina to be exact (see my profile). I daresay you can find out who I am if you use the information on the profile the right way. |
Sep-22-05 | | Derm: its me mastercheff |
Sep-22-05 | | Derm: I changed names |
Sep-23-05 | | JohnnyRhetoric: SneechLatke, Dane Mattson became quite known at that year's Canadian Open. Some of his exploits are fairly known, others, not as much. This sir, is neither here nor there. The true question is, does Mr. Mattson know you? And do you truly know Mr. Mattson? When your identity is revealed, the position shall become clear. In the end, it's all just Rhetoric. |
Sep-23-05 | | SneechLatke: <JohnnyRhetoric> Firstly I must compliment you on your choice and application of your name. First class. Yes, I suppose Mattson would know who I am. I have spoken to him several times, including at a local tournament recently. Though I have not known him for very long, I have certainly known of him for some time, and consider him a first class fellow. |
Sep-23-05 | | Resignation Trap: If any of you can contact Dane Mattson, please send him here to www.chessgames.com. I have some comments to make to him about how Sam Lipnowski successfully cheated on him: http://www.chesscafe.com/text/geurt... . |
Sep-25-05 | | JohnnyRhetoric: Mr. Dane Mattson has arrived. Yes, I am under the alias, "Johnny Rhetoric." Mr. Sneech, I am a resident of Wisconsin. By stating that we have conversed in a local tournament recently, that could mean the Twin Cities (for you) or Northern Wisconsin (for me.) My transparent mask has been unveiled. It is now your turn, sir. Resignation Trap, were you at the Canadian Open event where that happened? I can't seem to open up your link. Also, may I know you? Or do you just know of my incident? ALSO: This year's Canadian Open I played against Alexei Shirov in Round One, and Vasilly Ivanchuk in his simultaneous exhibition. Would chessgames.com be interested in posting these games? Furthermore, I would like to post my scalping of a 2501 in the Tennessee Super Nationals. And, no, I do NOT want to publish my horrendous games where have I lost in horrid fashion! Let's forget about those things. |
Sep-25-05 | | Resignation Trap: <JohnnyRhetoric> I'm not sure if we've formally met, but I was the winner of a tournament in which you played: http://www.geocities.com/SoHo/2951/... . I was not in Kapuskasing, but I was a victim of cheating at a Canadian Open once myself. It was also against an expert from Ontario, but it took place 20 years prior to your incident. I'll not reveal my opponent's identity, but I believe he's still active and lives in Thunder Bay, which is not too far from you. |
Sep-25-05 | | SneechLatke: <JohnnyRhetoric> Greetings! I apologize for the reference of you as a Minnesotan: I suppose that I sub-consciously thought you drove down with your dad from St. Cloud or something. The tourney I speak of is the Northern Open (Sept. 17-18) in Minneapolis. |
Sep-25-05 | | SneechLatke: We also spoke at the Minnesota Jr./Sr. High State championship last year. |
Sep-25-05 | | square dance: <JohnnyRhetoric> use this link to submit your games. PGN Upload Utility |
Sep-25-05 | | mastercheff: Sneech, why don't you just say your damn identity. What the hell? You just seem like some kind of weirdie. |
