GrahamClayton: Interesting to see how the Closed Sicilian was played back in 1870.

fredthebear: This sight has a ridiculous number of mislabeled KIAs that should be Closed Sicilians (B23-B26). It seems this game reaches a B26 Sicilian, Closed 6.Be3 by a different move order. Here are all the ECO Opening Codes: https://www.chessgames.com/chesseco...

The Closed Sicilians often play 2.Nc3 to prevent an early...d5. The KIA often plays Ndb2 as early as move three, yet sometimes later after castling.

Black took up space with pawns on the queenside, and continued to play there, as it should. White counters in the center w/the discovered attack 18.e5! winning a piece w/the hungry pawn. It seems Black should have played 19...BxRf1 instead, but still cannot catch up on the piece count. 29.e5 lead to simplifying exchanges, with White still up a bishop. White has the better endgame with the speedy bishop unopposed.

Jul-07-21  Stolzenberg: <fredthebear: mislabeled KIAs>

Sicilian, Closed (B23 - B26):

B23: without g3
B24: with g3, but without g6
B25 + B26: with g3 and g6

So, this game should be a Sicilian, Closed (B24).

Jul-07-21  Stolzenberg: <fredthebear: It seems Black should have played 19. ... Bxf1>

Black should have played 21. ... b4 instead of 21. ... Kf8.

Mar-14-22  Stolzenberg: 21. ... b4 22. Nd5+ Kf8 23. Ra1 Qb5 24. c4 bxc3 e.p. 25. Nxc3 Qb7 and White cannot save the rook.
Mar-14-22  Stolzenberg: 24. ... f5 25. Kh2
