Dec-07-21  Ulhumbrus: Let us try an evaluation of the position after 19 h4. White has a lead in development, greater space and central pawn superiority. If White can make all of these three assets count and if other things are equal, Black is lost. On the basis of this evaluation my present guess is that Nepomniachtchi will win this game.

Good news for Carlsen. He also has a weakness on a2 to work with. <OCF>'s ...Ra7 looks right.

Good Grief. my MP3 player is full of 50' and 60's stuff. You must be listening to songs from WWI.

Carlsen ganging up the a2 pawn and getting ready for Qxa2. We just need a Nepo blunder to set it off.

blazerdoodle: Alright, that did it. Just arrived, and catching up, and technical draw beat me to it, "Take the A-train". On that old box at the pub on the corner, I think Satin Doll was the flip side. How can I get on this Bobby fisher debate? Is that the one where he got his Bishop froze and the debate centered around this crazy move?
Dec-07-21  Retireborn: I like the plan ...Qf8, ...g6, ...Qg7. That'll confuse him.
Dec-07-21  UrVileWedge: <Can Black just play ...Nb4xa2? Can't be that simple?>

Very dangerous. You need both Rook and Queen to hold the knight at all, and the knight is pinned far away from any other supporting piece to reinforce it. Something as simple and immediate as Nc1 looks like it can win the entire piece at least, and even if you can't ,that's a huge liability unless and until you can extricate the pieces safely.

Dec-07-21  Ulhumbrus: One variation which the computer indicates after 15 b4 goes 15 b4 Nxb4 16 h3 Nf6 17Ne5 Nd7 18 Nexd7 Bxd7 19 Bxb7 Ra5 20 Qd2 winning material
Dec-07-21  technical draw: <ocf> Very true. Strayhorn wrote it but it's Ellington's signature song. Go figure.
Dec-07-21  Ulhumbrus: Anand has said that 20 Ne5 screams to be played. The move 19...Bd7 has obstructed the rook on d8 and so freed the N on f3 from having to look after the d4 pawn.

OhioChessFan: Back story. Ellington told Strayhorn to get to a gig as fast as he could by taking the A Train. Train, rhythm, clackety clack, people moving quickly, excitement, it almost writes itself. Strayhorn wrote it.

OhioChessFan: Back to the game, 19...Bd7. 20. Ne5 seems required.
Dec-07-21  Ulhumbrus: One inconclusive reason to play the move g4 either now or later is that Vidmar played this move in the game Vidmar vs Tarrasch, 1906

An Englishman: Good Afternoon: 21.Qe3 doesn't make sense to me because 21.Nxc6 will create a free passed a-pawn. Perhaps White wants to save the move for a more opportune time? Still have a *slight* preference for White's position, as it's hard to tell what sort of plan Black might find.
