Dec-07-21  Ulhumbrus: Let us try an evaluation of the position after 11...0-0. White has a lead in development, central pawn superiority and more space . If other things are equal and White can make all three of these assets count Black is lost.
Dec-07-21  chessdgc2: on 10. fxe3? This loses the d3-pawn after 10......a4

king2rook1: <according to Yogi Bear it ain't over till it's over> Hope you're joking. Yogi Berra, not Yogi Bear. Nepo shouldn't give away his time advantage like this. Especially not for 12.d4?!
Dec-07-21  Ulhumbrus: <chessdgc2: on 10. fxe3? This loses the d3-pawn after 10......a4> On 10 fxe3 a4 the N on b3 can do to d4. It will be supported by the pawn on e3 as well as by the knight on f3.
Dec-07-21  Ulhumbrus: <king2rook1: <according to Yogi Bear it ain't over till it's over> Hope you're joking. Yogi Berra, not Yogi Bear.> I am. Yogi Bear seems a better joke than Yoghurt Berry.

offramp: I reckon Carlsen will have thrown forward both of his RPs.

king2rook1: <Yogi Bear seems a better joke than Yoghurt Berry.> Agreed. I'm lost. 14...e5 and doesn't the initiative and advantage pass to black?
Dec-07-21  cehertan: Is nxd4 coming? Interesting anyway. Qxd4 e5.
Dec-07-21  cehertan: I guess re1 would refute it oh well.

An Englishman: Good Afternoon: The database has only one game with 8...Be7 (by transposition), H Gabuzyan vs B Bellahcene, 2021. Had thought White would play 1.e4, 2.Nf3 and 3.Bc4, but from a practical standpoint, this drastic change of prep looks even better. Even if White's opening proves unsound, he needed a complete change of scenery.

In game 8 White won by nicking the Black a-pawn on a7, this time he fixes White's a2 pawn as a target.

It's a new concept in chess we are witnessing. Take the a-pawns and win.

offramp: Carlsen wants to play 16....e5!
Dec-07-21  Diademas: I wonder if the loser of this game will be sporting a mohawk tomorrow.

Big improvement since Fischers -Bxh2? :)

Dec-07-21  technical draw: Sally <Take the a-pawns>. Duke Ellington came up with a similar idea.
Dec-07-21  beenthere240: Nepo is hoping for time trouble since he can just blitz out whites moves.

Keyser Soze: Does anyone liked 15.bxa3? Anand didn't understand as well that choice , for the "tempting" .b4!

An Englishman: Good Afternoon: And Carlsen has his pawn sacrifice, however temporary it will prove. Now his Ra8 is well developed without making a move. Any ideas on what Black will do with his Bishop?

OhioChessFan: Nepo needs to get the Queen off the d file. 17. Qc1 was better.
Dec-07-21  Ulhumbrus: White has the hanging pawns. White would like them to become a weapon while Black would like them to become a target.

Sally Simpson: Duke Ellington - I'm toiling, is it something to do with the CHESS record label.

(be careful mentioning musicians as this often encourages crazy Harry to appear to give us a video music link and then swamp this thread with Fischer could beat these two posts.)

The game? It has the makings of a smoking powder keg. Loads of good stuff happening off the board.

OhioChessFan: <Keyser> 15. b4 would have been the principled response.
