Feb-11-07  Autoreparaturwerkbau: I like 16.f4! and 19.d4.

  sisyphus: 16.f4 doesn't look nearly so good after 16...exf3 17.Nf3 Qf2+.
Jun-24-14  screwdriver: I don't think I'd ever get away with playing the bishop to a4.

offramp: The opening is given as "Italian Game: Two Knights Defense. Polerio Defense" but it should be <"Petroff Defense, Italian Game: Two Knights Defense. Polerio Defense">.

  al wazir: The immediate 18. d4 also wins: 18...Qxc1+ 19. Kxc1 Bxd4 20. Rd1 Kxe5 21. Qc7+ Kf5 (21...Kd5 22. c4#) 22. Rxd4.
Aug-26-17  actinia: I actually like playing black in this line, as I believe 5. ... b5! forces 6. Bf1. see Estrin vs Berliner, 1965 , one of the greatest games ever played
Aug-26-17  The Kings Domain: Fun and wild game from the old days.
Aug-26-17  thegoodanarchist: About Lasa Knight...
Aug-26-17  dumbgai: Hey look, a Dufresne game where he isn't getting clobbered by Anderssen.

AylerKupp: Not too many games with 8.Ba4. Und der Lasa got away with 8...Bd6 against Anderssen earlier, Anderssen vs Von Der Lasa, 1846, following 9.d3 h6. 8...h6 instead as in other Two Knights Defense lines, as in Matmati vs. Shamieh, 2007 (not in Opening Explorer database) is probably better than 9...Bd6 which continued as in the game 9.Nf3 e4 but Shamieh deviated with 10.Ne5 instead of Dufresne's 10.Qe2.

After 10.Qe2 Stockfish 8 suggests 10...Be6 like und Der Lasa played, evaluating the resulting position at [-1.59], d=37, after 11.Ne5 Qd4 12.Bxc6+ Nxc6 13.Qb5 Bc5 14.Qxc6+ Ke7 15.Qb7+ Kd6 16.Nxf7+ (here Dufresne deviated from Stockfish's suggestion with 16.f4) 16...Bxf7 17.0-0 Qd5 18.Qxd5+ Kxd5 19.b3 Rac8 20.Ba3 Bb6 21.c4+ Kc6 22.Bb4 Rhd8 23.Bc3 Bc5 24.Ba5 Rd3 25.Nc3 Bb6 26.Bxb6 Kxb6 27.Rad1 Rcd8 28.h3 Kc6 29.Rfe1 Bh5 30.Rc1 Rxd2 31.Nxe4 Nxe4 32.Rxe4 Rxa2 33.Re6+ Rd6 34.Ree1 Rad2 35.g4 Bg6 36.Re7 Rd1+ 37.Rxd1

So und Der Lasa's mistake likely came later in the game.

  tpstar: After 7 ... bxc6, 8. Be2 is most common for White, followed by 8. Qf3 & 8. Bd3, with 8. Ba4 a distant fourth = Opening Explorer

The trap line is 8. Ba4 h6 9. Nf3 e4 10. Ne5?! Qd4 forking the Ba4 and the Ne5:

White can get three Pawns for the piece after 11. Bxc6+ Nxc6 12. Nxc6 Qd5 13. Nxa7 Rxa7. Here if 14. 0-0 then Black has to avoid the blunder 14 ... Rxa2?? 15. Nc3.

After 9 ... e4, White can try 10. Qe2 pinning Black's e Pawn, leading to lively play = Opening Explorer

Aug-30-17  kevin86: a knockout!

Bubo bubo: I do not like how Dufresne gets away with violating more or less any established principle of opening play: he neglects development, attacks prematurely and goes hunting for pawns!
May-25-20  Chesgambit: 17...Qxf4? Bg4!
