Rex Sinquefield's wife Jeanne was called "Jeanne Cairns" before she became Mrs. Sinquefield. (Source: https://uschesschamps.com/2023-cair... )

Check It Out: If Irina beats a rude player we will have a pun in the wings: Cairn Krush. Be on the lookout for Carlsen-like behavior and report back.

I think it's a song on the terrific ELP album <Tarkus>, from the early '70s.

HeMateMe: Anna Z and Krush dueling at the top, a familiar situation.
Jun-08-23  jphamlore: I don't know if this position with White to move after 28. ... ♔e8 from

N Dzagnidze vs B Khotenashvili, 2023

will qualify as a puzzle. Anyone can come up with the plausible only-move candidate. The real question is whether one can carry the calculation to enough depth to prove the win.

Unfortunately, not only did White not play the only move to retain advantage, but the move chosen helped lead to White's losing the game.

No, but that album does have the song Eruption, which Eddie Van Halen famously covered on the VH debut album in 1992.

Check It Out: Zatonskih and Krush have both been adopted by the US from Ukraine, but you make a good point about a competition taking place in the US that's designed to promote the game of chess to females. You'd think there'd be some local-borns participating.

Check It Out: Circling back here, Karn was on Brain Salad Surgery not Tarkus. My Van Halen misinformation was a jab at HeMateMe's consistently wrong details.

HeMateMe: At LEAST I knew it was ELP. Don't be such a prig, dammit...
