May-16-13  waustad: I suspect <Tabanus> nailed it and I'm sorry I started the whole discussion.
May-17-13  Rolfo: <<Rolfo> If you should win, I'll take that beer at Carma, Øverbygd, Inner-Troms. If that hell hole still exists...>

I see, you once did your drafted service there.. Luckily I live at the coast, not far from Øverbygd though. A beer no problem anyway :)

Jul-22-13  Interbond: Simen won in Barcelona 8.5/9 points TPR 2901

Apr-26-14  waustad: He's leading +1 =2 -0 after the first 3 of 6 rapid games versus J L Hammer, which are being played to see who will be the final player in the Norway Chess tournament this year.
May-04-14  Karpova: Agdestein managed to qualify for the Norway Chess Tournament 2014 by beating Hammer in a 6-games Rapid match on April 26 and 27, 2014. Time control was 25 min + 10 sec increment.

After drawing games 1 and 2, Agdestein won games 3 and 4. After a draw in game 5, the 6th game wasn't played as Agdestein had secured victory by the score of +2 -0 =3.

May-04-14  waustad: I hope he plays and that we hear Hammer doing commentary. I've never heard the latter talking, but his writing is funny and he is studying journalism now according to his blog.
May-04-14  schweigzwang: <I hope he plays and that we hear Hammer doing commentary.>

In which language? :)

As seen/heard at Norway Chess 2013, his english seems to be good enough to do commentary in english.

May-15-14  Chessinfinite: Good luck to 'Dimen' Simen ! at the Norway Chess.

Interesting to see how he fares against an opposition that is way above his class, he probably will be thrilled to play Magnus in an official game, who is like that guy Moses ? to him maybe :)

Jun-03-14  Appaz: Round 1: Aronian - Agdestein 1/2 - 1/2.

Aronian, in the end, must be very happy with that draw.

Bring on Magnus!

Jun-03-14  Rolfo: Keep on Simen! Get Giri off road to rough terrain, and he must gear down :)
Jun-05-14  Appaz: Agdestein stealing points from the super-elite...pffft, old news!

New strong draw with white against Giri yesterday.

Fun fact: Giri won 1.7 Elo from Magnus Carlsen in the first round by drawing him. These 1.7 Elo points was now transferred to Agdestein when he drew Giri.

Go Simen!

Jun-05-14  NeoIndian: Go Simen, indeed!
Jun-05-14  Rolfo: Old dogs can still bark! Well done so far
Jun-05-14  NeoIndian: Feeling a bit sad about his missed chances against Karjakin. A win with black against Sergei would've been absolutely awesome. Still rooting for him to do good, and maybe beat one of these guys.
Jun-06-14  Appaz: Karjakin - Adestein 1/2 - 1/2.

Great game to watch. Simen missed 48..Kf7 and later his last chance to win, 54..Ke6.

Karjakin should have played h4 before black took his chance to free himself with the same move. After this white is in trouble.

Except for these moves, Simen pretty much followed Houdini at 20+ ply, sometimes improving on the engines suggestions, which indicates he played a very strong game.

Go Simen!

Jun-08-14  Conrad93: Agdestein always gets a god position against these guys, but he always misses the decisive move.

If you can't do that, you might as well just agree to a draw from the beginning.

Jun-08-14  Appaz: Another draw, with black against Grishuk, world #3.

Another narrow escape of a Super-GM: had he found 39. Rxg2+ in the time trouble, it would have won for Agdestein.

Undefeated on 50%, Agdestein has already scored as expected with four rounds to go.

Jun-09-14  Rolfo: Great draw again. Amazing result in this tournament whatever happens next. Could he crown it wit a win? And he, Magnus and Kramnik haven't lost yet

moronovich: Are you witty today,<Rolfo>? :)
Jun-09-14  Gegga: Simen and Magnus are the only players who have not lost in Norway Chess, so far (round 6). Who would have guessed that, before the tournament? :-)
Jun-09-14  Whitehat1963: Does anyone know how many Elo points Agdestein has picked up in this tournament?
Jun-09-14  Rolfo: Moronovich, when Simen is coughing I thought he would also demonstrate that old dogs can bark just to put some awe into his opponent, but maybe it isn't witty or even more some could see it as lack of respect, so I actually didn't wright this :)

I just tried to play with the words with and wit that you mixed. And if my little teaser landed in a fjord with a big nothing I may offer you a cold beer:)

And yes it is close to awesome to see the oldtimer doing so surprisingly well.

Jun-10-14  Rolfo: A cold beer anytime, and if Simen is around a beer for him too :)
