Reykjavik Open (1996)

The 17th Reykjavik Open (officially: XVII Reykjavik International) was held in the Faxafen Chess Center in Reykjavik, Iceland, 2-10 March 1996. A 64-player 9-round Swiss tournament, it was organized by the Icelandic Chess Federation. It was the first event of the VISA Nordic Grand Prix 1996-1997 tournament series. Time control: 120 minutes for the first 40 moves, followed by 60 more minutes for the next 20 moves, then 30 more minutes to the end of the game. Rounds 1-8 started at 5 pm, round 9 at 1 pm. Prize fund: 15,000 USD. Number of games played: 284.

Simen Agdestein, Nikolic and Tisdall shared the victory with 7/9.
