Jan-13-06  Bobak Zahmat: This is unbelievable. Smeets is a great chess player, and at his page nobody hasn't kibitz yet.
Jan-13-06  Bobak Zahmat: At the Corus Chess Tournament 2005 Smeets finished second together with Mamedyarov. He played some beautifull games. One of them was against Shak Mamedyarov. Mamedyarov vs J Smeets, 2005 Watch it and enjoy!

Aug-27-06  Bobak Zahmat: I guess this guy needs to improve his game before people will discuss his games. In fact, he is playing some decent chess in at Experience vs Rising Stars tournament. Good job from him to take Arkadi Naiditsch as his second.

IMlday: <Bobak Zahmat> No need to fear! The whole wide world is a'watching.
Aug-27-06  Bobak Zahmat: Like I have mentioned before, he played some great chess during Corus 2005, but probably that wasn't too impressive.
Sep-06-06  p0ubelle: <Bobak Zahmat>This is unbelievable. Smeets is a great chess player, and at his page nobody hasn't kibitz yet.

Probably,as he has competition. L'ami,Stellwagen and Werle... the young oranges or something...

he is talented,though.

Sep-07-06  Bobak Zahmat: Smeets is very talented player, his problem is probably his lack of results. Because he takes too much risk in his games, if he would manage to know when to push and when to slow down a bit he should turn fine.
Sep-07-06  p0ubelle: he's young.
well youngish he has time to improve.

Just gotta work hard. i guess.

Sep-08-06  Bobak Zahmat: <p0ubelle> Are you from New Zealand?
Sep-10-06  p0ubelle: Am indeed!
-.- kiwi~~

Are you from err Hungary?
;D

Sep-11-06  Bobak Zahmat: Hungary? No man :) From Afghanistan, but I live in the Netherlands (Europe). By the way I think kiwi ROCK! Especially PETER JACKSON!

THE RING IS MINE!

Sep-11-06  Willem Wallekers: Is Zahmat your real name or does it mean checkmate in one of the languages of Afghanistan?
Sep-12-06  Bobak Zahmat: Haha :). Yes Zahmat is my real name and no it doesn't mean checkmate. But well found it. Zahmat means brave or something in that corner.
Jan-14-07  Bobak Zahmat: Wow, this guy may be as suprising as two years ago. I really didn't think he able to beat a strong GM as Sargissian. Only time well tell whether this was just a coincidence or not.
Apr-13-08  Piti: well done, Jan!
Apr-13-08  brankat: Congratulations Jan!

Jan Smeets has been a fairly well known young GM in last 3-4 years. A strong potential. So I wonder why is there no Bio here?

Aug-19-08  achieve: Very good result for Smeets at the Staunton Memorial -- strong finish!

Well done, Jan!

Dec-04-08  Alphastar: he plays in group A of corus 2009.
Jan-17-09  piatos blue: Congratulations!!! You beat Ivanchuk.
Jan-23-09  Billy Vaughan: And he's still keeping his head above water with 3.5/6, tied for second and performing nicely above expected.
Mar-16-09  volvak: Jan Smeets is only 23 but he's already suffering from hair loss.
Apr-05-09  wordfunph: <volvak> ahehe! you're right!

Happy Birthday GM Jan Smeets!

Apr-05-09  WhiteRook48: Happy Birthday GM Smeets!
Jun-06-09  Edwin M: I'll be playing a clock simul against GM Smeets the 27th of june in Amsterdam at the yearly MEC festival. I'll post the game on my blog.
