Feb-27-06  blingice: <Rook e4 Chess> Sorry to respond to you so late. This was Chessmaster playing another program, Arasan. I can't even recollect the game at all, but I submitted it to the <CG.com> database, and due to logistical mix ups/miscommunications between me and <CG.com>, is no longer in there.
Feb-28-06  Rook e4 Chess: My current rating is 1689 according to Chessmaster, so if that translates to somewhere around 1489 in real life I would be happy with that considering my being so new to the game, also rememebering my starting off playing Stanley rated a 1, for those that remember or know he is a monkey in CM9000 so from 1 to 1689/1489 is pretty good,

My big problem now is the game will not take my queen instead it will check my king three times, even when I put the queen right there it would rather draw than play that seems like BS to me, it seems people buy these games to play not draw,

Mar-07-06  MrMojoRisin: I read this at one of the Chessmaster games pages, can anyone confirm or deny if this is true. Thanks.

<Also (I dont know if it's true) I've heard a rumor that if you defeat all the GM persona's in CM 9000 or 10 ed twice (one W one B). Then You Unlock Philidor, and You get a video with Philidor playing a giant mainframe with The CM's Face on it, Philidor Gracefully sacrifices a queen to force a checkmate, the mainframe shakes and explodes, and a close up of Philidor's face ensues. He looks back and winks, and a text say's "and you thought he was all that!" ...

Also, if you defeat Philidor, you unlock Greco, the cut-sceene is Greco going through a time portal, winning Wijk-aan-Zee and Lineres without a loss, and he looks at the screen, and ask "are you ready to face the greatest who ever lived? Even if you loose, Greco should be there next to Philidor and CM on the player select screen.

(this is just a rumor, I would advise NOT taking this seriously.) >

Mar-07-06  aw1988: It's probably jaymthenotquiteasgeniusasacircewhohadnearlyfoughtthedr- agonofagnor...

Ahem, my apologies.

Just a rumor.

Mar-23-06  vesivialvy93: It is very bad that no option to adjusts the cm personality exist in this game !!! i would like to have a option to change the elo rate of all the players (down by 300 pts)... i really hate that a computer over-rate me ! i would prefer that the computer under-rate because at least i know i am what the cm say ...anyway ! probably B.Pandolfini who love to say to everyone that they are better than they are in the reality worked on the CM9000 ..... YOU NEVER HELP PEOPLE when you say they are good and they don't....i am a poor guy who are rated 2265 on cm9000 and 2017 on yahoo and 1805 on icc (icc elo are for real!)...i know what it is to be over-rate !!!!

Apr-20-06  NewtonCheng: Chessmaster is a really good player.
One thing is that it can't really form
a plan. So get it into a position where strategy is needed. Not just calculation.
Apr-25-06  CaroK.4.me: that is the new patch that you could of downloaded so as not to load the new disc ever time you need ot play!

Apr-25-06  Zeratul1979: so i think we can safely say that a person is 400 or more ELO points stronger in CM than in real life? (what is real life anyways) :P

LIFE Master AJ: Hmmm. CM is rated around 2700 by SSDF and CETG. Anyone who is rated 400+ better than that ...
Apr-26-06  Jim Bartle: I think what Zeratul meant was that a player's rating tends to be much stronger, in theory, when playing computers such as CM than while playing other humans. I don't think he meant to say "400 points stronger than CM."

Or maybe not.

Apr-26-06  ganstaman: I think we might have reading comprehension issues. Allow me to quote: "stronger IN cm" (emphasis and de-emphasis added by me). Not "stronger THAN cm," but "in." Hope this clears up any confusion we've had.
Apr-26-06  Jim Bartle: That's what I was trying to say, ganstaman.
Apr-26-06  ganstaman: Yeah, I figured you understood <JimBartle>, but I wanted to point out that it doesn't even rely on interpreting <Zeratul1979>'s post correctly, but simply reading it correctly.

Anyway, I haven't quite read all the posts here yet, but is there really any truth to this? Isn't it likely that people are overrated on CM because of 1) the strength of the opponents they choose to play and 2) something about the chess playing environment (and possibly different amounts of pressure when playing CM and playing live)? I'd like to think so. Don't know why CM would purposefully inflate ratings.

LIFE Master AJ: I know how to read.

An English Professor at the University of New Mexico, (Albuquerque - I was stationed at Kirtland A.F.B. for about 5 1/2 years) told me that if someone reads something ... and gets any meaning other than the one that the writer intended ... it is solely the fault of the author.

Apr-28-06  Jim Bartle: Now, AJ, seriously, that's not true. Your professor must have meant it in a more specific way--that once a piece of literature is published, it exists and can be interpreted by each reader, that the author can no longer claim, "No, it means only this."

If I write that 1. f4 e6 2. g4 Qh4 is mate and you understand it is not mate, that's your fault, not mine.

You misread zerutal's post. We all do that every so often. Most of us just admit it and move on.

Its also obvious (to me) that you only intend to aggravate or try to start another flame-war, (this is not your first offense, in fact you have had dozens); so as soon as I write this, I shall make a slot available for you on my ignore list.

chancho: El LIFE Master AJ es un verdadero pendejo. lol
Apr-28-06  LoFarkas: chancho: you happen to be right, but repeating it this often gets a bit boring, you know... Couldn't we all stop flooding CG with AJ flamewars? Kramnik and Fischer are worthier subjects for meaningless hagglings anyway.
