Nov-20-08 | | FHBradley: <There are some 2500s performing in the 2800 range, but none of them will be able to keep up that level of play consistently.> Quite right, if a 2500-player consistently plays at 2800-level, he won't stay a 2500-player for very long. |

Nov-20-08 | | Shams: <hrvyklly: <Bobsterman3000: The US also doesn't produce very many world-class soccer players> Try *none* :-)> he's a goalie, but Kasey Keller, from my home state of Washington, was one of the best keepers in the world for years. |

Nov-20-08 | | timhortons: When asked during a press conference what he thought of the pairing system, the United States' GM Hikaru Nakamura said, "If the system works, then so be it. However, I definitely wouldn't say that I'm a fan of it based on what I've seen here." The Americans have so far played Iceland (2.5-1.5 win to the US), Greece (2-2), South Africa (3.5-0.5), Azerbaijan (1-3) and finally, Hong Kong (4-0). Said Nakamura: "We had a very tough match against Azerbaijan, which we lost, and then today [round 5] we've had to play against Hong Kong which is even weaker [than South Africa]. I mean it wasn't a good feeling." Nakamura's co-panelist in the same press conference, GM Sergey Movsesian, was equally mystified about the pairing system, describing it as "a bit strange". http://closetgrandmaster.blogspot.c...

Nov-20-08 | | FHBradley: Mr. Keller was good alright, but I doubt if he was one of the best, and certainly not for years. |

Nov-20-08 | | veigaman: <tim> chess needs to get into the modern times in my opinion. To begin with, We need a change in the international federation to be more representative and more democratic and then i would adopt the tennis system " the race of the champion " to define the best player of the world each year. May be i would only change the master series for a master match between the 2 players with more points gained through all the year. This ,it would be allow to increase the importance of the "low tournaments" as well |

Nov-20-08 | | Riverbeast: The US has had several goalies starting in the English Premier League - Kasey Keller and Brad Friedel. Although Landon Donovan still can't get any playing time with a German team...His problem is he's vertically challenged <Rahman Ziaur (2510) - Carlsen Magnus (2786)> I played that guy Rahman once in a tournament, a long time ago...He beat me pretty soundly. I had a feeling our game would be good preparation for him playing Carlsen :-) |
|
Nov-20-08 | | veigaman: <Landon Donovan> he is a good footballer but for any reason he has problem to adapt when he played outside of USA. Usa doesnt have the football tradition if we compare it with others countries but this time the american federation has made a fantastic job creating a new professional league MLS in USA in contrast with the the 70. |
|
Nov-20-08 | | timhortons: <Rahman Ziaur (2510) - Carlsen Magnus (2786)> carlsen was hold to a draw again by somebody of low rating |
|
Nov-20-08 | | Eban: i think hikaru will become world champion someday. |
|
Nov-20-08 | | timhortons: there is some descrepancy in the name posting of carlsen opponent, icc and playchess.com posted a different name as to what is posted in the official site. wow a bangladesh player hold magnus to a draw!
i think its a walk in a park game for him, i even think they should let him rest instead, the boy must be suffereing migraine from to much chess. |

Nov-20-08 | | Riverbeast: US plays Russia tomorrow, I wonder if Nakamura is going to tangle with the Moroze-beast |

Nov-21-08 | | Strongest Force: As usual, thx for the moves, <Timhortons>. Nak is playing a solid line. This is good because Grischuk might be seeking revenge for 2006 and could over-extend. |
