Feb-25-15  zanzibar: There is an old 1996 interview with this player, talking about making a GM norm, here:

Scroll about 1/2-way down. I believe that's his picture, though it looks miscaptioned. Here's his FIDE picture for comparison:

I guess he never finished the GM. But he did beat Tal, in <Subotica izt (1987)>, and this caused a big buzz in the Soviet press of the time:
