Jul-20-05 | | Orbitkind: Why is his name "Sipke Ernst" on chessgames.com? It should be "Spike Ernst". |
Jul-20-05 | | sneaky pete: Are you serious? |
Jul-20-05 | | Orbitkind: It seems the Sipke really is his name. I've always misread it as "Spike". |
Jul-22-05 | | Orbitkind: What kind of a name is Sipke? Spike I can understand, and even chess.fm misinterpreted his name as Spike, but Sipke is a ridiculous name. Who knows though; when I become more cultured I may realise it's a great name and name all of my male childred Sipke. |
Jul-22-05 | | Montreal1666: "Sipke" seems to be correct. It is not an English name, he is from Netherlands: http://www.chesslive.de/scripts/ser...? |
Jul-25-05 | | Orbitkind: How is Sipke pronounced? Is it "Sipe, K" or "Sip, K"? |
Jul-25-05 | | Lord.Dracula: More like "Sip-kuh". |
Jul-26-05 | | Orbitkind: Thanks. |
May-05-06 | | dakgootje: Strange that foreigners keep having trouble with Dutch names... |
May-05-06 | | technical draw: <dagootje> Yes Dutch names are hard to pronounce. See the Euwe page. |
May-05-06 | | dakgootje: <technical draw> Yes, but i think we dutchies managed at last to give a good indication there for how to pronounce euwe |
May-05-06 | | technical draw: That's true, now I have to learn to pronounce "dakgootje". |
May-05-06
 | | WannaBe: I'd just shorten it to 'dak' =) |
May-08-06 | | dakgootje: <That's true, now I have to learn to pronounce "dakgootje"> You know that i never even thought about that that may be a problem =) but indeed, most people say dak or dakkie (mostly dakkie), think those wont be too hard to pronounce ;-) |

Apr-19-10 | | patzer2: Nice article at http://www.coruschess.com/participa... reveals the level-headed thinking of this Dutch GM. |
May-30-11 | | Raspje: Sipke is a very nice GM of my hometown, Groningen. Willing to explain everything, like after our recent game, which was a draw (finally, a draw, after so may losses!). Maybe sometimes he is a little bit too prophylactic, which is the reason, I think, why he hasn't got 2650 at the moment. But still, a very strong and nice GM. |
Jun-30-11 | | zubenator: tool! |
Jan-04-12 | | messachess: He definitely should change his name to "Spike Ernst." It just sounds cool. Besides, they need a 'Spike' in Holland. |
