 | | Phony Benoni: Sorry, but I have to be negative about t his one. What we used to call "meat loaf". |
May-16-15 | | thegoodanarchist: Why is this GOTD? There are games between top GMs that deserve it way more than this. A player I could beat 4 out of 10 times pushes around a player I could beat 9 out of 10 times. |

 | | al wazir: <thegoodanarchist: Why is this GOTD? There are games between top GMs that deserve it way more than this.> Indeed. <A player I could beat 4 out of 10 times pushes around a player I could beat 9 out of 10 times.> You're being modest. |
May-16-15 | | coolconundrum: Worst GOTD in awhile. |

 | | offramp: Isn't this the second Hastings game in a row? |
May-16-15 | | siggemannen: I guess that they're running out of puns... |
May-16-15 | | newzild: Well, there's two minutes of my life gone.
I vote that GsOTD should be worthy, having some merit that appeals to chessplayers as chessplayers. |
May-16-15 | | newzild: Well, there's two minutes of my life gone.
A 2000 Elo player slaps around a 1550 Elo player with nothing more than routine moves. I vote that GsOTD should be worthy, having some merit that appeals to chessplayers as chessplayers. |
May-16-15 | | morfishine: Looks like Black got assigned to the wrong section. I have ant poison labeled 'Once and done'. Same term applies to this game: Look at it once and you're done <newzild> Can't argue with that, but in all fairness, hasn't there been a long string of really good games featured here at the GOTD lately? Every now and then a lemon will slip thru, especially since the game selected is determined by vote ***** |
May-16-15 | | ndg2: Uh, oh, black plays the thematic ..d6 REALLY late. |

 | | offramp: When people vote the vote is two-fold. They vote for the pun and then the quality of the game. |
May-16-15 | | kevin86: Isn't the last move a mate?
A one sided slaughter, to say the least. |

 | | Domdaniel: <newzild> - < Well, there's two minutes of my life gone.> Er, *twice*? Is that four minutes altogether, or is it some sort of Groundhog Day syndrome? |
May-16-15 | | Karposian: <Domdaniel: ...is it some sort of Groundhog Day syndrome?> That's just terrible. Consider having to go through this game every freakin' day. I feel for poor <newzild>. |

 | | Phony Benoni: Looking over this game again, I think the problem I have with it being a GOTD had little to do with the ratings of the players or the quality of the moves. I've seen "high quality" games between grandmasters which would have bee just as bad choices. No, my problem is that the game is not memorable. You could play through the games of a typical weekend Swiss and find half-a-dozen much like it in any particular round. I know, I've done it. Even more than demonstrating good play, the best GOTDs make you say "WOW",, or laugh out loud, or simply sit there with chills going up and down your spine. Afterward, you want to contact your friends and say, "You've got to see this game!" And that's your non-chess playing friends. I continue to hope that a game like R Franz vs Mayet, 1858 reaches the Sacred Circle some day. By any measure of quality, it's not a "good" game. But you'll never forget it. |

 | | PawnSac: ok white made a couple errors, but black ( a C class player ) made at least 8 to 10 bad choices. So why r we grumbling about this game? Consider it a day off! lol the game sucked, no big deal. lets move on |
