 | | Honza Cervenka: 6....Nxd5?? is already decisive mistake. There was no need to be afraid to take the Rook in the move 11. Later in the game black was near of escape from the defeat due to active Rooks and Bishop but he did not find the optimal way of keeping balance in position with deficit of two Pawns and so white finally prevailed. |

 | | OBIT: Kieseritsky gives a smooth performance after Anderssen's weak opening. In fact, Kieseritsky played Anderssen pretty even during his career - in the 15 games played between these two in the chessgames.com database, Anderssen won 7 and Kieseritsky won 6. Tragically, though, Kieseritsky is remembered only for one of those 7 losses. |

If it wasn't for the Immortal Game, Kieseritzsky wouldn't be remembered at all, except by a few weirdos like me. Anderssen had a big edge in their few serious games. Hard to know what to make of their casual games, including the Immortal Game. Some kibitzer here thought it was the product of post-game analysis, and I'm inclined to agree. Come to think of it, it's hard to know what to make of their serious games. Kieseritzsky couldn't have been <that> bad. |

 | | OBIT: I was about to delete my previous post and re-post it with a correction - actually, in the chessgames.com database, Kieseritsky has a plus score against Anderssen, with 7 wins vs 6 losses. But, I see <keypusher> jumped in with a post, so I guess I'll leave the previous one as is, for continuity sake. As long as I'm here, in response to <keypusher's> comment: Being remembered as the guy on the receiving end of someone else's immortal moment, is, I don't know... shades of Ralph Branca. |

I tend to think it is better to be remembered in ignominy than to be forgotten, but not everyone agrees. < «Vivo son io, e caro esser ti puote»,fu mia risposta, «se dimandi fama,
ch’io metta il nome tuo tra l’altre note».
Ed elli a me: «Del contrario ho io brama.
Lèvati quinci e non mi dar più lagna,
ché mal sai lusingar per questa lama!».
Allor lo presi per la cuticagna
e dissi: «El converrà che tu ti nomi,
o che capel qui sù non ti rimagna».
Ond’ elli a me: «Perché tu mi dischiomi,
né ti dirò ch’io sia, né mosterrolti,
se mille fiate in sul capo mi tomi».> |

< If I am alive I may be dear to thee<I said, You are seeking fame
But in these pages I already see your name.
He said, It is not fame I crave!
Go away! Leave my hermit's cave.
You do not know how to behave.
Then I dragged him by the neck
And said, I'll put you in the circus, what the heck!
More hair than Lex Luthor, less than Shrek.
He wept. These people give me funny looks.
I am stared at along with freaks and kooks.
I am weighted under a thousand books!! > > |
