May-04-15  thegoodanarchist: If anyone is wondering about the pun, as I was, look no further than the Saidy bio:

<Anthony Fred Saidy was born in Los Angeles. From 1963 to 1965 he was a doctor with the US Peace Corps in Jamaica>

Sep-09-15  4tmac: 11 h4 was the ticket. 15 ... ♞ x ♙ ... sweet ...
Sep-09-15  thegoodanarchist: <TheFocus: It was boring to try and read that inane twaddle.>

Besides inane, what other kinds of twaddle are there?

Silly, foolish, stupid, fatuous, idiotic, ridiculous, ludicrous, absurd, senseless, asinine, frivolous, vapid...

perfidious: There are, regrettably, too many: pity the one adjective noted by <tga> is but one of many in this regard.

keypusher: By the way, this is an amazing combination, especially because at the end of it (as in the even more amazing Fischer vs S Schweber, 1970) Fischer is in an exchange-down ending at the end of it. But he's forseen that the opposing rooks are not going to be able to get coordinated.

In a way, it's too bad that I (and probably most of us, the Americans anyway) saw Fischer's famous combinations when we were beginners, and couldn't fully appreciate them.

Mar-23-21  Albion 1959: Ever-alert and accurate, Fischer takes advantage of Saidy's uncastled king. 15. Nxe5 is not really a sacrifice, it is a multi-functional move that defends f7, prevents white from castling. It is in essence a carefully calculated sequence of exchange and simplify, where Fischer reaches an endgame the exchange down, but has the more active pieces, against white's passive rooks that never really played any sort of active role in the game. Fischer's active pieces and phalanx of pawns proved to be the decisive factor, but foreseen many moves earlier by Fischer. One of his lesser-known games, but just as instructive and interesting as his more well publicised efforts!

perfidious: <keypusher....But (Fischer has) forseen that the opposing rooks are not going to be able to get coordinated.....>

Any moderately competent player would evaluate the endgame reached as clearly favourable to Black; but Fischer's greatness lay in preparing the ground for all this.

  harrylime: There are TWO Fischers

Fischer 1943 to 1975

Fischer 1975 to 2007

I focus on the first Fischer.
