But he's forseen that the opposing rooks are not going to be able to get coordinated. In a way, it's too bad that I (and probably most of us, the Americans anyway) saw Fischer's famous combinations when we were beginners, and couldn't fully appreciate them. |

Nxe5 is not really a sacrifice, it is a multi-functional move that defends f7, prevents white from castling. It is in essence a carefully calculated sequence of exchange and simplify, where Fischer reaches an endgame the exchange down, but has the more active pieces, against white's passive rooks that never really played any sort of active role in the game. Fischer's active pieces and phalanx of pawns proved to be the decisive factor, but foreseen many moves earlier by Fischer. One of his lesser-known games, but just as instructive and interesting as his more well publicised efforts! |
