The 15th Interpolis tournament was a Category XVII event (Elo average 2666). Eight GMs including world champion Kasparov and former world champion Karpov competed in a double round robin (all-play-all) format. Bareev replaced Vasyl Ivanchuk. First prize $12,500, second prize $8,750. Chief arbiter: Geurt Gijssen.
