 | | Sally Simpson: By chance does anyone here know the time controls for this tournament. |

 | | jnpope: I recently looked this up in preparation for reformatting the xtab/bio above:
"Time limit: The first twenty moves in one hour and twenty minutes; afterwards, fifteen moves per hour. Five games to be played weekly, Wednesday being reserved for playing off of unfinished games."
Source: London <Field>, 1905.04.15, p603
"Quite a novel time limit has been adopted, the result of which will be to hasten the play during the earlier portion of the game, at least as compared to the regulation at Cambridge Springs, and other tournaments. At Ostend the rule will call for the first twenty moves to be made within an hour and twenty minutes, after which play must be conducted at the rate of fifteen moves each hour."

 | | Sally Simpson: Thanks jnpope,
Odd time control that one. One hour 20 minutes for the first 20 moves. I think all tournament reports should, if possible, add the time controls because they were not all standard and it may help explain some errors or odd moves at particular points in the game. Thanks Again, Geoff |
