This was the start of the 9th Niemeyer tournament, also called European Junior Cup. Swiss, seven rounds in eight days, starting on Monday 21 December (91 games). Rest day 25 December. Tournament director: Johan Zwanepol. The top 10 players qualified for the A-final: Niemeyer Juniors (1970/71).
