Sep-02-21  phantasmagorium: Hmmm...the rating of Walter Browne (2690) cannot be right. Was it probably 2590?

Those days, ability to maintain a rating of higher than around 2575 would have been enough to be part of the elite, if I understand it correctly.

  moronovich: You are right <phantasmagorium>

I played Larsen in a simul in 1975 and he was rated 2650.

In general european rating is (or was ? , believe it stil is so) around 100 ratingpoints lower than the US.

Stonehenge: Thanks, I've changed it to 2545.

Sep-02-21  phantasmagorium: Thanks, <moronovich> and <Stonehenge>.

Interesting story, <moronovich>. Yup, those days, Larsen must be one of the true top players, say, just one rung of the ladder below the world champion. Must be a nice chess experience to be able to play such an opponent, even in a simul.

  moronovich: It certtainly was <phantasmagorium>

And after the simul we were 5-6 players who had a long coversation with him. Quite some stories he could tell :).

Interesting username you have, btw !?

Sep-02-21  phantasmagorium: Well, <moronovich>, I was just trying to find a username that, hopefully, nobody else would use. In hindsight, could have done a bit better, but this is probably good enough :)
Sep-02-21  phantasmagorium: BTW, <moronovich>, I am sure that you use your username because it is totally opposite to what you are.

Interesting idea though. In hindsight, I should have done something similar :D

moronovich: Well I like your username, also because it is an original one.

And you are not far off describing mine.It also was my sons, who unfortunately became braindamaged in 2006.

Cheers mate !

Sep-03-21  phantasmagorium: <moronovich> I am so sorry for your son. May the Lord bless him and you as well.

moronovich: Thank you so much, <phantasmagorium>.
May-11-22  Helios727: How do you get 121 games in a 16 man round robin? The right number should be 120.

MissScarlett: Timman - Pomar is duplicated. It’s a sore point around here. Let’s just keep it between ourselves.

perfidious: <Helios>, Timman apparently beat Pomar twice.
