Introduction
Pool is a game among three persons. The lottery-box indicates the two players who shall first commence, and the conqueror is he who shall successively beat his two adversaries.(1)
Synopsis
A Series of pools at Chess is to be played between Mr. Brien, Herr Falkbeer, and Mr. Zytogorski. Mr. Brien and Herr Falkbeer commence play on Friday, November 30. He who first wins two games will then encounter Mr. Zytogorski. If Mr. Zytogorski is successful, he will have to play the loser in the first match; if unsuccessful, the winner of the first match will be declared victor in the first pool. The second pool will be on the same terms, the losers commencing.(2)
The seventh game of this pool was won by Herr Falkbeer, who thus gained the victory over his opponents, having been the first to score two games.(3)
