The final score, therefore, shows that Hanham won first prize, Delmar and Halpern tied for second and third prizes, and Roething took the last. Halpern and Delmar will have to play a match of two games up, draws not to count, the winner to be pitted against Hanham for possession of the special prize, donated by Aristides Martinez, the President of the club. (5)

Major J. Moore Hanham, first prize, $40, and the club championship. Eugene Delmar and J. Halpern divide second and third prizes, $30 and $20. Otto Roething, fourth prize, $10. Delmar and Halpern have been directed to begin a match of two games up for the privilege of playing Hanham. (6)

Conclusion
Delmar and Halpern would play a match of two games up to decide the opponent for Hanham. See Delmar - Halpern (1899/00) and Delmar - Hanham (1900).
