The 22nd Reykjavik Open was a 103-player 9-round Swiss held in Reykjavik, Iceland, 6-14 March 2006. It was organized by the Icelandic Chess Federation. Time control: 90 minutes for the first 40 moves, followed by 15 more minutes to the end of the game, with 30 seconds added per move from move 1. Rounds 1-5 and 8 started at 5 pm, rounds 6-7 at 2 pm, round 9 at 1 pm. Prize fund: 20,000 USD. First prize: 6.000 USD. Tournament director: Asdis Bragadottir. Chief arbiter: Rikhardur Sveinsson. Number of games played: 450. Gabriel Sargissian won on tiebreak ahead of Adly (2nd), Mamedyarov (3rd), Nataf and Harikrishna, all five with 7/9. Carlsen lost to Adly in Round 9 and ended 6th.
