In 1994, Inna Gaponenko won the World U18 (Girls) Championship. She was Ukrainian Women's Champion in 2008.

She has represented Ukraine on all boards during the Olympiads held in the period 1994-1998 and 2002-2010, winning team gold and individual silver in 2006, team silver in 2008 and individual gold in 2010. She represented Ukraine in the World Women's Team Championships in 2007, 2009, 2011 and 2013, winning team bronze and individual gold in 2007 and 2009, and team gold in 2013. Furthermore she represented Ukraine in the European Women's Team Championships of 2001, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2009 and 2011, winning team bronze in 2009. She played in the European Women's Club Cup in 1996, 1998, 2000-2005, and 2007-2010 during which time she won 3 individual golds for her team BAS Belgrade in 2002, 2003 and 2004; a team gold in 2002; a team silver with Grandmaster School Kyiv, her team in 1998; team bronze in 2000 with DANKO-Donbass Donetsk; team bronze with BAS Belgrade in 2001; team bronze with ŠK T-Com Podgorica in 2008, and individual bronze in 2010. She played in the Ukrainian Women's Team Championships in 1999 and 2000 and won team gold and individual bronze in the All-Ukrainian Games in 2003.
