Chessgames.com Chess Event Description
Groningen Young Masters (1999)

"The chess-loving people of Groningen, true to their tradition, organized three international tournaments between 19 and 30 December 1999 - with the Christmas holiday on the 25th. Several grandmasters and international masters took part in the open grandmaster tournament with a hundred participants, including Zoltan Gyimesi and Nora Medvegy. Albert Bokros and Ádám Horváth represented Hungary in the invitational, round-robin tournament for twelve "young masters", ... six ladies also fought a high-level battle in the ... ten-round women's grandmaster tournament. It is interesting that there were also a few girls in the boys' field, while Nona Gaprindashvili from Georgia, a former multiple world champion, chose the Open, where she finished in a respectable fifteenth place with seven points. ... Albert Bokros for the first time - after this trip to the Netherlands - received the "Good Student and Good Athlete of the Hungarian Republic" award from Zoltán Pokorni, Minister of Education, in an intimate ceremony in December last year."
