  MissScarlett: It’s here!
May-06-22  virginmind: Thanks, but you need to put it on the list from the left side of home page, for people to notice it.
May-06-22  virginmind: Garry Kasparov gave an interview to a TV channel in Bucharest, in which he spoke mainly about the war in Ukraine. Unfortunately it was not subtitled, and although on tv Garry was easily understandable in English over the translator's voice, here not quite so. Hopefully they'll provide the subtitles, or leave only the discussion in English.

I hope there's no copyright problem linking the TVR1 interview here.

May-06-22  virginmind: Deac starts with 2 draws against much better rated Nepo and Aronian, good for him!...

MissScarlett: Down goes Alireza! Seems Nepo is back in the shape he was before he slimmed down for the world title match.
May-06-22  tuttifrutty: That young man is back down to earth….and more.
May-06-22  ndg2: I'm an Alireza fanboy but I wrote already back in November that he won't be the favorite for the candidates, not by a long shot. That's Caru, Ding and Nepo. Against the very best he still has alot to learn.
May-07-22  ortznoi: I'm still expecting the Russian people will voice out their freedom and the right thing that at this point the will of the dictator is certainly not the will of the Russian people.
May-07-22  virginmind: Today Deac wins with black against Rapport, very nice! It was a great game, white blundered on move 40 in time trouble - while black managed to find the right moves just on increments for much longer. Bogdan-Daniel at plus 1 after 3 rounds.

May-07-22  tuttifrutty: < Magnus Carlsen recently said that he would play the Match only against Firouzja. Apparently, chances are slim.>

Only because the young man isn’t ready for him. Why not challenge Wesley or Ding for that matter? Scared? Your guess is good as mine.

MissScarlett: In addition to Alireza, it's inconceivable to think Magnus would refuse any of Duda, Naka or Ding. But I think he'll play the match, come what may. The PlayMagnus brand demands it.

A cynical line of reasoning at the end, but I'll also admit, probably realistic. Another world championship match would surely offer a significant amount of money and opportunities for Carlsen and his brand. I just hope that, regardless of his reasons, he does continue to play these matches so the world can continue to see more exciting chess.

keithbc: Naka, if he DOES reach the final against Carsen ( a MASSIVE if), then Carlsen may well choose to play as he finds it easy against Naka.

MissScarlett: Even the possibility that Magnus might give up the title adds a little extra spice to the Candidates, because the top two could end up playing a title match.
May-08-22  thebully99: Hopefully we'll have a USA vs China or USA vs Russia title match

HeMateMe: I know this is off-topic but it's hard to think about Romania without thinking of Ilie Nastase:

<Allegations of inappropriate behavior included Pam Shriver claiming Năstase frequently asked in a joking manner if she was still a virgin. After about 30 occasions of this happening, Shriver asked him to stop asking that, which he did.>

It was just Nasty being Nasty. Lighten up, Pammy! Pam was married to George Lazenyby, a former James Bond. By definition, that means Pam is no longer a virgin. So there.

<He holds the rank of major general in the Romanian military.>

The Russians are in trouble...

< He entered Romanian politics in the 1990s, making an unsuccessful run for mayor of Bucharest in 1996.[50] Elected to the Romanian Senate for a Bucharest seat in 2012, he initially sat for the Conservative Party (PC), then subsequently switching to the National Union for the Progress of Romania (UNPR) in July 2015 after the former party ceased to exist.[>

<Năstase has been married five times: >

you HAVE to love a guy crazy enough to get married five times. It helps that they were all bimbo fashion models, vapid gold diggers.

<Maxim has placed Năstase at number 6 on its "Living Sex Legends" list, as he is reputed to have slept with over 2,500 women.[56] Năstase's own estimate of 800 to 900 was too low for the writer of his biography who wanted a larger number to improve his reputation>

It's good to be Nasty! Clearly, Wilt was threatened...

<During the second season of "Masked Singer România", Năstase appeared as "Bufnița" on 9 September 2021. He sang "My Way" by Frank Sinatra, unmasking himself before the audience vote for elimination.>

A man's got to know his limits.
