chessgames.com: <Re: acirce> The PGN from the tournament website only lists an Ulf Hammar (no Hammarström). Was this an error in the tournament's name listing, or are acirce's games not available from the site? If not, he can use the PGN Upload Utility to submit his games, and of course we'd be happy to include them.

By the way: if you have corrections to submit, use the link below the kibitzing area <Spot an error? Please suggest your correction ...> This ensures that an administrator will review the situation in a timely fashion (we do not, as a rule, read every page of kibitzing). Also, this procedure prevents the inevitable confusion stemming from people discussing errors that have already been corrected. We take exception to this policy when a discussion is actually necessary in order to resolve the error; but for obvious name misattributions and so forth, the correction slip is the best way to go.

No, Ulf Hammar is a different player. There are indeed no games from <acirce> available (i.e. he played Akesson in Round 1 but the agme's missing in teh official pgn http://www.scandinavian-chess.se/id...)

Wow, how many ELO points is he going to gain from this superlative performance?

Aug-12-07  Karpova: User: Nikita Smirnov might have participated, too.

There's a Nikita Smirnov from Sweden with a 1318 rating who scored 4/9 and reached place 151 (though being seeded 195!). A great performance for sure and he'll probably gaining a lot of points!

Aug-12-07  cuendillar: <joebuck> Li Chao is the second from left in that picture. Here's a better one http://www.scandinavian-chess.se/bi... http://www.scandinavian-chess.se/bi...

<Karpova> I think so, I played in this tournament too. I would not be very surprised if other chessgames.com members than those already mentioned participated as well.

Official commentator Jesper Hall noted that the chinese calculated incredibly fast and accurate when playing. I think he mainly thought of Wang Hao and Li Chao then.

Aug-12-07  cuendillar: Final standings (7/9 or better)
1. Li Chao

2. Wang Hao 8

3. Emanuel Berg

4. Lars Karlsson 7

5. Robert Astrom 7

6. Evgeny Agrest 7

7. Erik Hedman 7

8. Ralf Akesson 7

I've been saying that for two years now: China will become a dominant chess power like Russia.

Aug-14-07  Timex: <notyetagm> unless more juniors from Russia suddenly pop up.
Aug-14-07  Davolni: China & Chess.....

no, no, nope!!!!

Aug-14-07  Ziggurat: Yes, yes, yep.
Aug-14-07  djmercury: Looks like we have a new Svidler, he won 4 games with black with the Grünfeld.
Aug-17-07  s4life: <Davolni: China & Chess.....

no, no, nope!!!!>

Considering that the top talent among the young usually gets into GO and Chinese chess instead of chess... I'd say they have a lot of potential to be the most dominant nation.

Oct-09-07  Nikita Smirnov: Karpova:That was really me playing.I won over two 1700 Lask players. That is one of my best tournaments.
